New York Comic Con delivered a huge wave of news for Marvel fans today. Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation and Comics, took to the Empire Stage alongside comics editor Stephen Wacker to showcase a massive slate of upcoming Disney Plus projects. While there were surprise screenings and cast reunions, the absolute standout of the presentation was the unexpected announcement of a brand new live-action spy series titled ‘Zodiac’.
The Mystery of ‘Zodiac’ Taking centre stage in the announcements, ‘Zodiac’ promises to plunge fans into the gritty espionage side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Winderbaum confirmed that the highly anticipated thriller will begin production in London during the spring of 2027, with a Disney Plus premiere locked in for 2028. While specific plot details remain a closely guarded secret, Winderbaum teased that eagle-eyed comic readers might spot clues hidden within the show’s official title design.
For those unfamiliar with the comics, Zodiac is traditionally a vast, shadowy criminal organisation divided into branches that represent the twelve astrological signs. Historically, the group has served as a major antagonist for both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. Marvel will officially begin casting the new programme in the coming weeks.
A Surprise Look at ‘VisionQuest’ Beyond the ‘Zodiac’ reveal, attendees were completely blindsided by a surprise screening of the first episode of ‘VisionQuest’ ahead of its October 14 debut. Paul Bettany and James Spader took to the stage with showrunner Terry Matalas, alongside co-stars Ruaridh Mollica and Emily Hampshire.
The new series follows a rebooted Vision on the run from forces trying to weaponise him. Seeking meaning, he consults his internal AI personas, which include F.R.I.D.A.Y., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the villainous Ultron. Things escalate when a bounty forces him to protect Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who comic fans know as Vision’s reincarnated speedster son.
The Defenders Reunite for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ The convention floor also erupted when the cast of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ arrived to discuss their third and final season. Host Brandon Davis orchestrated a massive street-level Marvel reunion by bringing Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Finn Jones out on stage. The trio of Defenders presented an exclusive preview of the final season, which is scheduled to hit the streaming platform in 2027.
Expanding the Animated Universe Marvel Animation brought plenty of firepower to the panel as well. Showrunner Jeff Trammell unveiled the official poster and a sneak peek for the second season of ‘Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man’, which is officially slated to premiere on January 13, 2027.
The packed room of over 3,000 fans was then treated to an incredibly early look at the third season of the smash hit ‘X-Men 97’. Finally, it was confirmed that ‘Marvel Zombies’ is returning for three massive two-part specials over the coming years. Fans will get ‘Marvel Zombies: Winter Soldier’ for Halloween 2027, followed by ‘Marvel Zombies: Fist of Khonshu’ in 2028, and concluding with ‘Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian’ in 2029.
