Mario Kart World Already Runs at Full Speed on PC via Switch 2 Emulator Eglantine, Just Over a Week After the Jailbreak

Eden has just added experimental support for Nintendo Switch 2 emulation on PC, and its fork Eglantine is already running Mario Kart World.

Just over a week ago, the Nintendo Switch 2was finally hacked, roughly sixteen and a half months after its June 2025 debut on the market.

This initial jailbreak opened the gates to the modding, emulation, and homebrew scenes. A few days ago, someone already showed the Switch 2 exclusive game Mario Kart Worldrunning on macOS and even on an iPhone 18 Pro; now, though, the first proper PC emulator has arrived.

Modder Takorokahas released an experimental Switch 2 integration for Eden, one of the first and most famous Switch emulators. The author clearly stated that the software still needs many fixes, but it’s a starting point, and others have already used its code to improve it further.

Eglantine builds on Takoroka’s experimental Eden NX2 work, offering its own builds of the emerging Switch 2 emulator. The GitHub page says:

Eglantine is a free and open Switch 2 emulator, derived from Eden, Yuzu, and Sudachi – started by developer Camille LaVey. It’s written in C++ with portability in mind, with builds for Windows, Linux, and macOS

Right now, its makers claim that Mario Kart World is playable at “full speed“, depending on the PC’s specs, and the recently released game Splatoon Raiders is also playable, albeit with a variable frame rate. There is video evidence of both on YouTube, as shown in the videos embedded below.

For now, users should view these releases as an experimental starting point that’s still far from a polished way to play the Switch 2’s library on PC. Takoroka explicitly warns that missing meshes stem from currently unimplemented shaders. Getting a handful of games running is an encouraging milestone, but broader compatibility, accurate rendering, and consistent performance still have to be achieved.

Still, the speed of progress since the jailbreak is striking and promises much greater results in a short amount of time. On the other hand, this might attract Nintendo’s well-known banhammer, which dropped heavily on the Switch emulation scene a couple of years ago, shutting down Yuzu and Ryujinx, two of the most popular emulators.
