A lot has been said about Bollywood’s insider-vs-outsider debate. Now, Manoj Bajpayee has offered a reality check on how the Hindi film industry really operates. The Gajab Raat actor recently busted the myth of the film fraternity being a “family.” He said that no filmmaker or actor is happy about another’s success and everyone is on their own. Despite being part of the industry for years, Manoj feels he does not belong in it. However, he emphasised that what truly matters is being good at what you do.
Manoj Bajpayee Takes Jibe At Bollywood’s Insider Culture
Manoj Bajpayee recently challenged the popular belief that the film industry functions like a family. Citing his own journey, the Gajab Raatactor said that despite being part of the industry, he never felt a sense of belonging. He added, “You need not necessarily have to be from Bandra only. You can be in Malad and still be acting.” According to him, the quality of their work is what truly counts.
He also dismissed the idea of a close-knit film fraternity. “The biggest illusion is that the industry is a fraternity. It isn’t like a family. All the offices are built separately, nobody parties with anyone, nobody calls anyone when they like their film. No actor feels happy on seeing someone else succeed. No director thinks of himself lesser than the other director. No production house is happy to see any other production house earn more money. So, remove all these things from your mind,” said Manoj, during a chat withBollywood Hungama.
Bajpayee continued that people come into the world alone and would leave alone. He added that he might not be the right person to offer such advice and issued a candid disclaimer. He explained that he focuses on his work, makes sure he receives his payment and returns home. He further said that if people criticised him, they should do so from their homes and added that he stayed far away from them to hear their praise. Manoj said that he had no attachment to either criticism or appreciation.
“Forget about me, anybody from the industry, no matter how many times they say ‘industry is a fraternity’ — No, industry is a bullsh*t. There is no fraternity here. All of us are fighting our own battle, and you should be well-equipped to fight your own battle. Nobody is going to help you. If somebody comes to you, that must be a good day, that’s it,” said Manoj.
Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor is seen in Netflix’s latest releaseGajab Raat.
