A brand-new PS5 exclusive superhero game is finally here. The title has arrived on the PlayStation Store after years of development. The latest action game comes from Insomniac Games, the studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man video games.
Marvel’s Wolverine is now available on Sony’s PS Store. The standard edition costs $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition is listed at $79.99. The iconic X-Men mutant game is exclusive to PS5 and PS5 Pro, with PSSR support boosting performance on the Pro console.
Insomniac developed the project in partnership with Marvel Games. Initially announced in 2021, the game has Brian Horton as creative director and Cameron Christian as game director. Development continued for several years, but in 2023, the game faced a major setback after a ransomware attack on Insomniac Games. Marcus Smith and Mike Daly took over the roles of Horton and Christian in October 2024. The duo had previously worked on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Currently, the game holds an average rating of 4.84 out of 5 based on more than 6200 reviews.
The story & characters behind Marvel’s Wolverine
Marvel’s Wolverine is a standalone game with an original story, set in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man series. The game follows James “Logan” Howlett, an amnesiac mutant who leaves Team X, a covert mutant strike force he once worked with.
Three years later, he rejoins his former unit, now made up of Sabretooth, Mystique, and Nathaniel Essex, to investigate Bolivar Trask, a billionaire scientist kidnapping mutants worldwide. Along the journey, Logan meets Jean Grey, who joins him on the task.
The Trask-led Reavers, the Hand, Sentinels, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, and Ogun are Logan’s major opponents, apart from Trask.
PlayStation LifeStyle rated the game 7/10, calling its combat “fast, chaotic, and challenging,” and praised its “best-in-class visuals, animations, and choreographed set pieces.” It also noted that the game leans “too heavily on the formula established by its predecessors.”
