Well, this is a bummer.
<a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/gargoyles-live-action-show-not-happening-disney-1236847780/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Variety reports that the live-action Gargoyles series that had been in the works at Disney+ has gone cold. According to the outlet, the show is no longer moving forward.
The original Disney animated series aired from 1994 to 1997 and followed a clan of Gargoyles who protect New York City from monstrous threats as they did in Scotland one thousand years earlier. It featured stars such as Keith David (The Thing) as the voice of the main gargoyle, Goliath.
I can’t speak for other kids at the time, but I loved it.
This is especially disappointing because we just don’t have enough good gargoyle media out there. Aside from this series, there’s the 1972 film also titled Gargoyles, a great appearance of the creature in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, and that’s about it.
Writer Gary Dauberman (IT) and James Wan’s Atomic Monster were behind the new series.
The logline for the now-dead series read as, “Based on the cult classic Disney animated series, Goliath is the last of a heroic race of gargoyle warriors who once lived among mankind. Free from a centuries long curse that turned him into stone, Goliath struggles to solve the mystery of his past while watching over modern-day New York City alongside police detective Elisa Maza.”
For now, the cult following around Gargoyles continues. The creatures live on in new comics, toys, you name it. Maybe one day, we’ll get the live-action series of our dreams. I refuse to believe that the whole thing has turned to stone for good, but we’ll see.
For now, let’s just reminisce over the animated series opening/closing credits.
