Lionel Messi is heading into a world of giants, magical powers and high-stakes soccer battles in a new Disney+ animated series.
The first teaser for Messi and the Giants debuted at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga on Oct. 2, giving more than 3,000 fans inside Hall M their first look at the upcoming sports-fantasy series executive produced by the soccer legend.
Rather than presenting a straightforward animated version of Messi’s career, the series places a fictional 12-year-old named Leo in an entirely different world.
Leo becomes trapped in an alternate reality ruled by giants and must find a way home by competing in dangerous soccer-like battles using powerful orbs. Along the way, he must defeat legendary giants and help restore the fractured realms of Iko.
There’s one major problem: Unlike the people around him, Leo cannot use the world’s special code-based powers to enhance his abilities. Instead, he has to rely on his own skill, teamwork and determination.
Argentinian actor Milo Burgess-Webb will voice Leo.
The teaser also introduced the show’s original theme song, “Vamos, Vamos, Vamos,” recorded by Argentine singer Luck Ra.
Executive producers Lacey Stanton and Bryan Korn, director Dan Creteur and Sony Music Vision’s Sergi Reitg appeared at Comic-Con Málaga to introduce the series and discuss its characters, mythology and music.
Messi serves as an executive producer on the project, which combines elements of his soccer legacy with an original fantasy universe rather than directly retelling his life.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner previously said the project fulfills a childhood dream of his to participate in a project aimed at younger audiences.
Messi and the Giants is set to premiere globally on Disney+ in summer 2027 and will also air on Disney Channel in the United States.
