Will the Lindsay Clancy Trial Get a True Crime Documentary? What We Know

Warning: The following post contains discussions of suicide and violence against children.

Considering the Lindsay Clancy trial has become national news, it’s probably only a matter of time before a television documentary explores the case with firsthand interviews, expert commentary, archival footage, and other markings of the true crime genre. Such a documentary hasn’t come out yet — nor has one been announced, according to a search of trade publications — but various TV shows and podcasts, including those below, have reported on the court proceedings.

Clancy pleaded not guilty to murder charges after strangling her children Callan, Dawson, and Cora, in January 2023, according to the Associated Press. Her attorneys do not deny she killed the children but say she was not criminally responsible because she was mentally ill with postpartum psychosis. They also say Clancy attempted to get help through multiple outpatient providers and the medications they prescribed, a suicide hotline, an emergency room, a psychiatric hospital, and a hospital-based treatment program for women with post-pregnancy mental health problems.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, argue Clancy is an intentional killer. As her trial continues, Clancy faces life in prison without parole if she’s convicted of murder. If not, she’ll be committed to a state mental health facility.

A Mother’s Mental State: Inside the Clancy Case recaps courtroom action.

Fox Nation has a series titled A Mother’s Mental State: Inside the Clancy Case . “Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children, returns to court willing to admit to killing her kids in [a] bid to separate issues in her upcoming trial,” the streamer says in a synopsis. But with episode titles like “Lindsay Clancy Status Hearing” and “Lindsay Clancy Trial – Day 13,” the series seems to be a repackaged feed of courtroom footage.

Court TV’s Vinnie Politan Investigates has been following the case.

Vinnie Politan, lead anchor at Court TV, has devoted more than 20 episodes of his show Vinnie Politan Investigates to Clancy’s case, with sensational titles like “Lindsay Clancy Case: The Kids’ Final Moments,” “Lindsay Clancy’s Nurse Drops Big Bombshell,” and “Lindsay Clancy: Monster of Mentally Ill?” The episodes are also viewable in full on YouTube.

How to Watch the Lindsay Clancy Trial Live: Full Streaming & TV Schedule

The 48 Hours podcast Case by Case is also on the Lindsay Clancy beat.

In April, CBS News’ 48 Hours franchise launched the podcast Case by Case, billed as “a weekly update on the biggest criminal stories unfolding now.” And of the 21 episodes followers can watch on YouTube, the Lindsay Clancy trial is the subject of five, starting with July 17’s “The Lindsay Clancy Case: A Family Tragedy on Trial.” In that episode, host Natalie Morales and WBZ-TV Boston anchor Kristina Rex “examine the case that has drawn national attention and intense public scrutiny.”
