Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 arrives on Hulu ahead of Season 28
According to the official press release, the Hulu arrival is on September 8, putting the 21-episode season within easy reach ahead of the show’s next broadcast return. Fans will need to keep one date straight, though: Season 28 starts October 8 on NBC, with episodes also available through Peacock. The Hulu release applies to Season 27, not the upcoming season.
Season 27 put Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Benson through one of her roughest stretches yet. Her story included an arrest, a suspension, and repeated pressure from Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan, creating plenty of professional chaos around the longtime SVU leader. Kelli Giddish also returned as Detective Amanda Rollins, this time as a series regular after previously leaving the main cast.
Season 27 lineup also includes Ice-T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr., Kevin Kane as Detective Terry Bruno, and Aimé Donna Kelly as Captain Renee Curry. Meanwhile, Octavio Pisano and Juliana Martinez did not continue as permanent cast members as Detective Joe Velasco and Junior Detective Kate Silva.
Season 28 will also bring back Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler for multiple episodes, subject to scheduling. Stabler originally left after 12 seasons, then returned in Season 22 and later starred in Law & Order: Organized Crime. That spinoff ended after five seasons, potentially giving Meloni more room to appear on SVU.
The upcoming season continues SVU’s record-setting run as the longest-running show in the Law & Order franchise. At the same time, Benson and Stabler’s long-awaited dynamic remains one of the series’ biggest draws.
