Lanterns Posters Fuel the Big Question Around DC’s Green Lantern Reboot

New Lanterns posters just dropped, and one glaring omission has fans talking. The latest promo art spotlights Hal Jordan and John Stewart while fueling the biggest debate around the DCU series

Hal Jordan and John Stewart take center stage as fans wait for the DCU’s Green Lantern costumes

New promotional posters for DC Studios and HBO’s Lanterns series showcase Hal Jordan and John Stewart in civilian clothing. The posters feature Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan against green-tinted backgrounds. Neither character appears in their iconic Green Lantern Corps uniform, continuing a trend in the series’ marketing materials

The posters include the Green Lantern oath text and the Lanterns logo prominently displayed. One poster highlights Stewart with the tagline referencing the famous Corps oath. Another features Jordan in a similar green-washed aesthetic with the series branding

Based on teaser trailer footage, Hal Jordan may wear his Green Lantern Corps suit briefly during the season. John Stewart will likely not suit up until the ring becomes his in the finale. This approach aligns with the show’s grounded, detective-style tone that draws from HBO’s drama legacy

Showrunner Chris Mundy previously addressed the series’ balance between superhero spectacle and prestige television. “We have this incredibly rich mythology within the Green Lantern canon, and we have this incredibly rich history of Sunday night HBO shows,” Mundy said . He also revealed that Green Lantern Corps’ alien members won’t make an appearance in the show

The series follows new recruit John Stewart and veteran Hal Jordan as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Nicole Ari Parker round out the supporting cast. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King co-created the series, with James Gunn and Peter Safran executive producing

James Hawes directed the first two episodes, while Stephen Williams and Geeta Patel also helm installments. John Stewart will next appear in the film Man of Tomorrow, set for release next summer

Lanterns premieres on HBO on August 16
