A new anime adaptation has been announced for Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up, the romantic comedy manga by Mitsuki Mii.
The anime follows two former middle school outcasts who reinvent themselves before high school, only to reunite after their respective glow-ups and find that changing how they look hasn’t exactly solved their social problems.
Yuto Uemura will voice Keisuke Shizuki, while Tomori Kusunoki will play Shizuka Kusunoki.
The anime is based on the manga written and illustrated by Mitsuki Mii.
Passione and Hayabusa Film are handling animation production. The two studios have previously worked together on anime including Loner Life in Another World, Chained Soldier Season 2, and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman.
Midori Yui is directing and writing the series. Koji Haneda is designing the characters, while Hyadain is composing the music.
The original manga launched on the Pixiv Comic website under Ichijinsha’s Comic Pool brand in October 2022. Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English and describes it as follows:
Keisuke Shizuki might have been an outcast in middle school, but not anymore. The trauma of being rejected by his first crush left Shizuki with a phobia of pretty girls and the drive to remake himself and start high school fresh: new looks, new friends, new confidence. That is, as long as he avoids the cuties and anyone who knows anything about his past. Unfortunately for him, the prettiest girl at his new school just happens to be his former middle school classmate and another ex-outcast, Shizuka Kusunoki. Unlike Shizuki, Kusunoki still lacks the social skills to make the most of her new appearance—and she wants Shizuki’s help. But helping Kusunoki will mean spending a lot of time around a beauty, and drawing some not-so-welcome attention…
