NBCUniversal and JioHotstar, formerly known as JioCinema, launched The Peacock Hub in India in 2023.
JioHotstar has announced a collaboration with The Peacock Hub for the ninth and final season of Koffee With Karan, marking the first time NBCUniversal and JioHotstar have partnered to support a homegrown Indian show. Hosted by Karan Johar, the new season will premiere on October 14, 2026, bringing the popular celebrity chat show closer to the end of its remarkable 22-year journey.
NBCUniversal and JioHotstar, formerly known as JioCinema, launched The Peacock Hub in India in 2023.
Since then, the platform has amassed a rich library of international entertainment including Peacock Originals such as All Her Fault, PONIES, The Copenhagen Test and The Five Star Weekend, while its catalogue also features content from Universal Studios Group, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Pictures, Focus Features, Sky and Bravo.
Previously, the role of The Peacock Hub in India was largely restricted to facilitating the distribution and acquisition of international content. However, as it partners with Koffee With Karan, its association with the show marks a significant step for the platform to not only enable international content for Indian viewers but also to support an Indian original, created for the local audience.
Reflecting on the collaboration, host Karan Johar said, “I started this show wanting nothing more than coffee, honest conversation, and a little indiscretion with people I love. That instinct hasn’t changed in twenty years. What has changed is who’s paying attention. Having The Peacock Hub choose to collaborate with us for the first time in India is humbling, and honestly, this show has always belonged to the people who watch it as much as the people who sit on that couch. And we are so proud that it now belongs to the bigger world too.”
Alok Jain, Head – Hindi & English Entertainment Business (Streaming, TV & Studios), JioStar, also spoke about the significance of the partnership and its implications for Indian entertainment properties.
“This is a significant moment in how we see the future of Indian IP. Koffee With Karan has always been one of our most valuable properties, but this is the first time a global studio has chosen to partner with us around a show, not just its distribution. The Peacock Hub choosing Koffee With Karan for that first such collaboration validates something we’ve believed for years: that Indian IP, built with the right ambition, can compete and collaborate on a global stage. At JioStar, we aim to co-create exciting formats that don’t just travel across markets, but have the potential to be built, shaped and celebrated globally.”
The partnership comes amid a broader shift in how international studios are engaging with India’s entertainment industry. Rather than limiting their involvement to adapting established international formats for Indian viewers, global players are increasingly exploring opportunities to support locally developed properties that can find audiences beyond their home market.
Koffee With Karan is a fitting choice for this collaboration. Over the years, the show has established its own identity through candid celebrity conversations, personal revelations and memorable moments that frequently become talking points across entertainment and social media. Its format and appeal have remained closely tied to Indian popular culture, while clips from the show also find audiences outside the country.
For The Peacock Hub, partnering with the show’s historic final season is a good way to back an established Indian entertainment property, while not detracting from the format that made it a hit. Meanwhile, for JioHotstar, the deal is an important step in its strategy to create home-grown intellectual property that can find traction beyond India, helping to spur strategic alliances.
The ninth season of Koffee With Karan, hosted by Karan Johar, will premiere on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar on October 14, 2026. The upcoming season will feature a refreshed format and a guest lineup that has already generated considerable buzz. It will also mark the grand finale of one of India’s best-known celebrity chat shows, bringing the curtain down on a 22-year run.
