Taylor Swift’s loyalty to the New York Knicks came under scrutiny after guards Tyler Kolek and Miles McBride questioned her commitment to the team in a trending video shared Thursday. The players discussed celebrity supporters on the NBA 2K League TikTok account, prompting the organization to publicly defend the singer’s longstanding connection with the franchise.
Kolek identified Swift as the fakest celebrity Knicks fan when asked to name a celebrity whose support appeared less genuine. McBride agreed with his assessment during the conversation.
Kolek explained his reasoning while acknowledging the singer’s busy schedule.
“I guess she’s got a lot going on, so she can’t come all the time, but it’s a little performative,” Kolek said.
The comments prompted the Knicks to respond to TMZ, emphasizing Swift’s history with the organization and its home arena, Madison Square Garden.
The team rejected the suggestion that her support was merely performative and highlighted her longstanding relationship with the franchise.
“Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many <a href="https://comicvibe.com/how-conservatives-lost-the-pop-culture-war-2-years-after-democrats-did/” title=”How Conservatives lost the pop culture war 2 years after Democrats did”>years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden, and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization,” the Knicks said in a statement to TMZ.
Swift was among several celebrities who attended Knicks games during the team’s run to an NBA championship last season. Her presence at major games demonstrated her public association with the franchise.
The singer attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden alongside friends Alana Haim, Este Haim and Mariska Hargitay.
