Kenshi Yonezu will take part in the live action film Look Back, opening in Japan on September 11, 2026, with a special guest guitar performance. The film is directed by Hirokazu Koreeda and adapts the manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Yonezu will participate under the credit “Shark Kick Guitar,” with his involvement announced on August 20.

Kenshi Yonezu’s Connections to Tatsuki Fujimoto and the Look Back Team

Yonezu has several connections to the people and works involved in the film. For the anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, he performed the opening theme “KICK BACK.” He later worked on “IRIS OUT,” the theme song for the theatrical Chainsaw Man film Reze Arc, as well as its ending theme “JANE DOE.”

Yonezu has also previously worked with director Hirokazu Koreeda, who directed the music video for his song “Canary.” He has collaborated on numerous songs with Yuta Bandoh, who is composing the music for Look Back. Bandoh is officially credited as the film’s composer.

With these connections coming together, Yonezu’s participation in the film was decided. His distinctive guitar sound can be heard in one particular scene in the film. The scene in question can only be experienced in the full movie.

Look Back Follows Fujino and Kyomoto Across 13 Years

Look Back tells the story of Fujino, who has absolute confidence in her manga skills, and Kyomoto, who admires Fujino while possessing extraordinary artistic talent of her own. The two are brought together by their wholehearted passion for manga, until an unexpected event changes their lives.

As in the original manga, the film begins during their elementary school years and delicately portrays the 13 years they spend moving forward together. The official English description of the original manga likewise introduces Fujino and Kyomoto as two girls connected through their love of drawing manga.
