Jr NTR’s new film lands in controversy:Demand for ban over ‘Born in the North’ claim; story may be related to Lord Murugan

Strong reactions have emerged in Tamil Nadu over the alleged depiction of Lord Murugan and the ‘born in the North’ claim made in the poster.

South superstar Jr NTR’s upcoming mythological drama has landed in controversy even before filming begins. While the project is yet to go on floors, its first poster and tagline have sparked a nationwide debate

In Tamil Nadu, strong objections have been raised over the alleged depiction of Lord Murugan and the poster’s claim that the deity was “born in the North.”

“Naam Tamilar Katchi” chief Seeman has demanded a ban on the film in the state and warned the makers of serious consequences if the contentious elements are not addressed

The controversy has also gained momentum on social media, with users divided over the issue. However, the filmmakers have not yet issued an official statement in response

This new mega project was announced on June 29

Jr NTR and director Trivikram Srinivas announced their ambitious new project on June 29. The first-look poster features a trident and a spear intertwined in the shape of a DNA strand. Its tagline describes the story as that of “a deity born in the North, shaped in the heart of the country, and worshipped in the South.”

The tagline has triggered controversy, with a section of people in Tamil Nadu alleging that it misrepresents Lord Murugan, a deity deeply rooted in Tamil culture and identity. Critics argue that referring to the deity as “born in the North” distorts cultural and historical beliefs. While the makers have not officially revealed the film’s title or storyline, the project is widely believed to be inspired by Lord Kartikeya, also worshipped as Lord Murugan

Demand to ban the film’s content as well

The controversy surrounding the film escalated further when Seeman issued a long statement on social media on Sunday. He alleged that attempts are being made to distort Tamil history and religious traditions

He warned against showing fabricated stories about Lord Murugan in the name of art. Seeman also appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to ban the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film if the controversial aspects are not changed

‘Dragon’: Based on an international drug network

Meanwhile, Jr NTR will also be seen in director Prashanth Neel’s film ‘Dragon’. This film will be released on June 11, 2027. Set against the backdrop of 1967, this period action drama will depict the story of international opium trafficking, the Golden Triangle, and the bloody power struggle in the criminal underworld. According to director Prashanth, this is the most realistic film of his career to date
