Across the street from the unmissable Gaslamp Quarter sign is the sprawling convention center that has long been, and will continue to be, home to world-renowned Comic-Con until 2030.
The famous actor and musician hasn’t made an appearance here since 2018, so fans were shocked to see him dressed head to toe as an iconic character — and it wasn’t Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp Steps Out in Public as Ebenezer Scrooge
Johnny Depp has found himself in headlines for better or worse over the last decade, whether it be alleged surprises his now ex-wife left for him in bed or reports that he was burning through his incredible fortune.
Now, it’s clear Depp still commands plenty of enthusiasm from fans as he’s both been known to be reclusive in some aspects, yet still willing to dress the part for fans from time to time as he formerly made an appearance at Disneyland in full get-up as everyone’s favorite pirate.
This time, it was more like Christmas in July. Stepping outside in the entrance to the bustling Gaslamp Quarter, crowds had already gathered for a rumored surprise.
Lo and behold, it was Mr. Depp himself portraying Ebenezer Scrooge, donning a top hat and all.
Fans roared in excitement yelling anything from “Merry Christmas” to “Happy New Year” (even though it’s over 80 degrees in San Diego today).
Walking hunched over with a cane, he interacted with the crowd much to their delight.
While there is no official Scrooge-related conference scheduled for this year’s Comic-Con, the out-of-the-blue showing was to promote Depp’s upcoming movie Ebenezer:A Christmas Carol, slated to hit theaters November 13, 2026.
