La. (KPLC) – A longtime community tradition returns to downtown Jennings as the annual Jennings Alive festival brings together local vendors, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities
The free event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature 64 vendors, live entertainment, and activities for attendees of all ages. Face painting will also be available for $5.
Organizers say the festival began more than 40 years ago as a way for local crafters and artisans to showcase and sell their handmade goods.
Tesha O’nellion, director of the Jeff Davis Council, says this event is part of what makes Jennings so special. “It’s just a way to highlight the people in our community who make things.”
Planning for the festival takes nearly a year, with organizers working to create an event that gives families and community members an opportunity to spend time together while supporting local vendors.
Activities just for children have also been a popular part of the festival. Organizer Sam O’nellion recalled the excitement surrounding the Bubble Bus at a previous event, saying there were often 10 to 20 children gathered in front of it at a time.
While the festival offers plenty of activities for younger attendees, organizers emphasize that Jennings Alive is an event for the entire community.
Tesha said community support is important to ensuring more events can continue to take place in the area.
Organizers hope residents will attend, support local vendors, and help keep the Jennings tradition alive for future generations.
