Jane Seymour starred as Dr. Michaela Quinn on “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” from 1993 to 1998. The western drama followed the adventures of a female doctor in Colorado Springs in the 1800s, and you can now stream all six seasons for free on The Roku Channel. Although her medical adventures fueled many of the series’ storylines, her romance with Byron Sully (Joe Lando) was a huge part of the series’ broader appeal. While “Dr. Quinn” may seem to be one of those shows from the ’90s no one talks about anymore, it was incredibly popular during its initial six-season run.

As if fated, the role fell into Seymour’s lap at the perfect time: While navigating financial issues in the middle of her divorce. “I was at the bottom of the barrel, and this [script] was just a piece of magic,” she told TV Insider in 2022. “I thought, ‘If it has that effect on me, maybe it will on an audience.'” She was right. As the outlet noted, “Dr. Quinn” pulled impressive ratings, with its first season ranking among the 20 most popular series at the time. Fans were also eager to watch Seymour and her castmates film the show live. “Anyone who wanted to could come out — and did,” Seymour continued. “All night sometimes! It was like doing live theater.”

Somehow, the fondness for the series has only grown over the years: “If I pose in a photograph with Joe Lando, it burns the ether!” added Seymour.

Fans of long-wrapped series usually have to plead with actors and producers to acknowledge the work that captured audiences’ hearts, but that’s not the case for those who still love “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.” Stars Jane Seymour and Joe Lando have always known just how special — and buzzy — their show was. “I believed in it, because I could just feel the chemistry,” she told People in June 2026. “And the material we were doing, it was magical.” Meanwhile, Lando revealed he always wanted to play the rugged type. “All my life, I wanted to play that character,” he told People. “As a little boy, I wanted to be this mountain man guy.”

Given their fond recollection of the series, it’s unsurprising that Seymour and Lando have been on the frontlines of trying to launch a “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” reboot for years. There was even a script written showing what it would look like three decades later. “It would be at the turn of the century, which would make it more interesting where the women’s movement began,” Seymour dished to TV Insider in 2022. “We would have that, immigration, intolerance, murder, mayhem, and guns, and native people being used and abused, which is sadly going on today.” Unfortunately, it never materialized.

Seymour and Lando — whose real-life romance complicated their time on “Dr. Quinn” — at least got to team up again on her show, “Harry Wild,” in 2026.
