The world of James Bond on the big screen is waiting for a new actor to bring 007to life, but in the world of comics, there’s still life. IDW Publishing will now be Bond’s new home in the world of sequential art and has already announced who will be leading this new chapter.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, IDW has chosen Scottish writer Grant Morrison (The Authority, All-Star Superman) to write this series in collaboration with Ian Fleming Publications. According to Morrison, the plans for the first adventure of his run with Bond are already set. It will be titled ‘Sunbreaker’ and will consist of a total of six parts, telling a story that includes everything fans expect from the character and his world. “Expect to see James Bond in a few unfamiliar situations, facing unfamiliar foes, in a world very like our own as reflected in a deadly funhouse mirror – a world of intrigue, violence, double cross and deception. A world through which James Bond glides like a killer shark among minnows. Charismatic, ruthless, unstoppable.”

A swing for the franchise
“I’ve been a James Bond fan for as long as I can rememberand this opportunity to put my own stamp on a British character as iconic as King Arthur, Robin Hood or Sherlock Holmes, was too good to miss,” said Morrison. “Pairing a renowned franchise like James Bond with the visionary writer Grant Morrison is a perfect example of IDW doing what it does best with licensed properties,” said IDW CEO Davidi Jonas. “Our goal isn’t to simply provide supplemental and optional stories. We strive to take radical swings which celebrate and stay true to the very qualities that make the franchise special while also reinventing it for the modern comic book landscape.”
Bond has appeared in comic books since the 1980s, with Marvel’s adaptations of the Roger Moore films. Among the publishers he has appeared with are Eclipse Comics, Dark Horse Comics, and, most recently, Dynamite Comics, which debuted in November 2015 which also featured spin-off adventures of other characters from the Bond universe.
