Mumbai’s NESCO Exhibition Centre is all set to host the country’s largest anime convention by Anime India from August 28-30, where fans will get to experience live performances by Japan’s leading cultural icons, aside from attending insightful sessions by some of the biggest names in the Japanese anime industry.
Featuring interactive panels, workshops, and experiential zones, the convention will deliver a massive pop-culture experience fully at par with large-scale global expos.
One of the foremost highlights is a coveted delegation featuring luminaries from the Japanese anime industry, including Naruto director Hayato Date; Sakamoto Days production team member Ryota Hasegawa; Kadokawa representative Junichiro Tamura; and Hideo Katsumata, President and Representative Director of Avex Pictures Inc. and President of the Anime Times Company. Miscellaneous fandom experiences from simulation-based experiences to merchandise zones will also be part of the convention. Competitive events like Grand Cosplay Challenge, Closet Cosplay, Gaming Cosplay, prop-making, and general anime trivia also offer the opportunity for fans to win big cash prizes.
The convention will also feature performances by J-pop act ASCA (opening themes for Sword Art Online, Fate/Apocrypha, and Darwin’s Game), artiste Luna Gaomi (Sparks of Tomorrow on Netflix), Love Live! talent Yura Akari, and trending J-pop YouTube duo Mofmofmo.
The most prominent feature of the grand Mumbai showcase and convention is the Anime Idea Contest, which is conceived of with a view to discover original story concepts centered on India-Japan cross-cultural themes The initiative welcomes individual creators, studios, and writers teams to pitch for significant cash rewards and potential commercial development.
Speaking on the massive scale of the upcoming event, Neha Mehta, Co-Founder of Anime India, stated, “With over 50,000 fans gathering at NESCO, this convention is a testament to the explosive growth of the Indian anime community.
