The West Indies are about to begin their most extensive tour of India since 2023, arriving for eight white-ball matches that will run right alongside the Asian Games in Japan.
India, currently the top-ranked ODI side in the world, face a West Indies team that sits a lowly eighth. But Shai Hope’s squad will not be lacking in confidence after a competitive run through 2026.
The timing overlaps with India’s Asian Games campaign, which explains why several of India’s white-ball regulars, including Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar, are absent from this squad entirely.
That, however, leaves room for senior names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to lead the batting alongside a group of uncapped hopefuls.
West Indies arrive with their own selection intrigue, recalling John Campbell from injury and handing Jewel Andrew a recall in place of the still-recovering Ackeem Auguste, as head coach Daren Sammy looks to build a settled core for the years ahead.
