The acclaimed team of W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo, and Chris O’Halloran are bringing back their unique 55-card narrative experience, this time featuring a fresh “Silver Age” design. While the first printing utilized a fantasy-forward aesthetic, this new edition aims to honor comic book history while maintaining the distinct, eerie vibe that fans have come to expect from the series.
“The Mortal Coil Shuffle” is not your typical comic book. The story is told across a deck of 55 custom playing cards. When read in order, the cards unfold a narrative experience that Prince describes as a “close-up magic trick.” The deck includes a mix of narrative cards, tarot-style cards, and interactive elements that force the reader to “Go Fish, Draw Four, Declare War, and (probably) Fold” as they progress through the haunting tale.
“The first deck was such a success that some die-hardIce Cream Man readers never got a chance to experience this special story,” said Prince in the press release. “So we’re thrilled to bring ‘The Mortal Coil Shuffle’ back—with a beautiful new design that speaks to comic history…while simultaneously honoring the singular fantasy aesthetic of the first printing.“
