When you think of Marvel over the last few years, there are really only a few highlights we can point to in television. I think the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been fantastic, but the television shows have fallen flat (aside from Daredevil: Born Again),and I didn’t have much interest.
I went to the theaters to see the movies because that felt like less of a commitment, but so many of the Marvel TV shows were just sort of… eh for me. Secret Invasionwas terrible, Echowas boring to me, Ironhearthad promise but didn’t feel complete to me, and I was just tired. Only Agatha All Alongcaptured my attention, and that was because I loved Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and thought she might have something to do with the show.
But ironically, VisionQuestis coming out soon, and I’m actually…excited for it, even though for a long time, I wasn’t excited for it. And I believe it might be what gets me back into Marvel.
The films have been fun, but they haven’t felt like the 2019-2021 MCU movies for me
As I mentioned before, Marvel films over the last few years have been enjoyable. I loved bothThunderbolts*and TheFantastic Four: First Steps,and I also enjoyed watching Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) cross between different universes in Deadpool and Wolverine.I also loved the record-breaking Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
But nothing has really gotten me… as excited as I used to be.
The closest thing was Spider-Man and anything involving that hero because I have always loved him. But that was really it. I never felt the same excitement I did back then.
In all honesty, I think it’s because we were given a lot of mid-content that didn’t live up to the promises made to us and gave us average stories that we forgot about within a few days. It also didn’t help that many Marvel projects were teased and just forgotten about (like Harry Styles’ random appearance in Eternals)or paused indefinitely (looking at you, Blade).
So what was the point of getting excited for a universe that felt like it couldn’t even follow through with its own stories? But that’s where VisionQuestcomes into play.
VisionQuest is a callback to WandaVision, and it has sparked my interest again
I have said before that I love Wanda, but I never really cared that much about Vision (Paul Bettany), mainly because he was just… I don’t know, Vision. He was a synthetic superhero that just confused me, but I went along with it because Wanda loved him. And I ended up liking him enough in WandaVisionthat I wanted to see more.
The thing is, VisionQuestwas announced ages ago, and for a time, I really didn’t know if it was even still going to happen. It felt like all updates and announcements about what was going on with it had ceased, and we got nothing on production, timeline, or anything else.
And now, at 2026’s D23, we were given a trailer, and it looks… really good. If you haven’t seen it, check it out below:
Instantly, it feels like a callback to 2021, when all of us would sit down weekly to watch WandaVisionand theorize about what would happen next. It has that same vibe, that same feeling, and it feels very timely with Avengers: Doomsdayreleasing in December.
Personally… it actually excites me. It’s not just typical Spider-Man excitement or anything else. This actually makes me interestedin the overall story of the MCU, not just the idea of watching a superhero fight a bad guy. Because how are they going to tie this all together years later?
There’s also the fact that Ruaridh Mollica, who will play Speed, is in here. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, it’s Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s son—you know, the one who was created in WandaVision? Another connection? It’s wild to me that this exists, because that means we really are going to go back to that old story.
I knew that Tommy would come into play at some point, considering his brother, Billy (Joe Locke), was in Agatha All Along,but actually seeing it happen is like whiplash. This is the kind of stuff that is luring me back in: the continuation of a story that I thought had been long forgotten.
But here we are. And I am so excited.
If Marvel can nail VisionQuest,a lot of fans will come back to the franchise. And Doomsdaywill end up being even bigger. All I know is that I’ll be watching.
VisionQuestwill premiere its first episode on Oct. 14, 2026, on Disney+.
