Just like any good pickpocket will tell you, it’s best to leave the scene early and on a high note, and this seems to be the case for the Hulu/Disney+ series The Artful Dodger.
The Australian series, which serves as a sequel based on Charles Dickens‘ classic novel Oliver Twist, has been renewed for a third and final season, according to an exclusive report at Deadline.
“‘The Artful Dodger’ is a character drama set in 1850s Australia and is a much-loved story with a twist,” Disney’s official logline for the series reads, from its initial announcement back in 2022. “The scripted series explores the adult double life of Charles Dickens’ famous prince of thieves – Dodger – now a surgeon, but who can’t shake his predilection for crime. From high-octane heists to life-and-death surgeries, glittering parties to colorful streets, this series is a rock’n’roll tale with an Aussie connection.”
The first season of the historical drama premiered in November 2023 and was renewed for Season 2 the following year. After almost three years of waiting for fans, the second season was released in February 2026.
The Artful Dodgeris led by Thomas Brodie-Sangster(The Queen’s Gambit, Love Actually)in the titular role of Dr. Jack Dawkins/The Artful Dodger, and David Thewlis (The Big Lebowski, Fargo) as Norbert Fagin, along with Maia Mitchell (Teen Beach Movie, The Fosters), Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Tim Minchin (Robin Hood,Upright), and Luke Bracey (Monte Carlo, Hacksaw Ridge).
While Disney has described the third season as the final one in recent social media posts announcing its renewal, no release date has been given, only a simple “soon” description. Given that Season 1 premiered in 2023 and Season 2 dropped in early 2026, Season 3 could easily not surface for another few years. However the “soon” may suggest a smaller gap between seasons, now that there should be no further writers’ and actors’ strikes, as there had been for much of 2023.
