In a move sure to please almost everyone (‘almost’ because there is always those few who would object to a wonderful 72° Spring day with a light breeze) Tribune Content Agency has chosen Howie Noel (aka Howard Christian Noeldechen) to continue the adventures of Dick Tracy as the new regular artist of the comic strip.

Dick Tracy by Eric Costello and Howie Noel – Oct. 5, 2026

There is no official announcement yet but the new strips have Noel sharing the creators’ box with Mike Curtis and not being billed as “guest artist.” After missing a week in the credit box Curtis returns though Eric Costello continues as “guest writer.”

And to this reporter’s delight Noel employs his much lauded retro art style!

As seen in the panel above he is credited as “Howie Noel” in the credit box, but signs the strips “HCNoel” as he does with his Ripley’s Believe It or Not panels. Will he continue to draw the Ripley’s panels?

Noel’s previous runs on Dick Tracy as guest artist ran Oct. 6-Oct. 20, 2024 and Jan. 4 – Feb. 15, 2026.

GoComics has collected those strips at Part One – Part Two – Part Three – Part Four.
