Oh, House of the DragonSeason 3, you are a complex and often confusing beast of a show, and now you’re coming to an end. Sunday, August 9, marks the Season 3 finale of the Game of Thrones prequel, and while one can hope that we’ll inch a little bit closer to having a true heir on the Iron Throne, something tells me we won’t get all the answers we’re looking for.
In the season’s penultimate episode which aired last Sunday, Alicent Hightower, mother to two, no, make thatthree sons who are all in line to take the throne, tried to kill one of them (that would be Aemond, perhaps her most problematic son: one eye, Oedipal complex, not sure if he’s dead now), while the other son, Aegon II (nearly burned to death but not humbled by the experience, very much alive now), reigned fire down on one of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s armies, proving that neither he nor his dragon, Sunfyre, are done with this mortal world. And then there’s Daeron Targaryen, recipient of the recessive brown-hair gene, who is being held as a prisoner puppet by his cruel uncle Ormond, and who seems to want nothing to do with any of this. And of course, this is only like 1% of the story set up in the last episode alone.
We’re just going to have to wait until Sunday night to see what, if anything, is resolved before the series takes a lengthy break between seasons. (A fourth season has been confirmed and is projected to arrive in 2028.) Here’s how to watch the Season 3 finale ofHouse of the Dragon.
