Sydney, Australia and Tijuana, Mexico will square-off in their first game of the Little League World Series on Thursday. Both countries have been incredibly successful at Williamsport.

Ryde Little League from Sydney, Australia is making its first appearance at the LLWS. Australia has had a strong showing in the LLWS since the country began competing in the tournament in 2013. It’s one of the few nations with an automatic bid into all four Little League Baseball tournaments. A team from Sydney has represented Australia in six of its previous 11 appearances.
Municipal De Tijuana Little League will represent the Mexico region and can no doubt make it far in the tournament. Mexico has the second-most World Series appearances and has won three championships, including becoming the first-ever international champion.
Mexico pitcher Jorge Fonseca threw a complete game in the championship, punching the team’s ticket to Williamsport. Tijuana will look to add to Mexico’s legacy this year.
This year’s LLWS in Williamsport, Pa. features 20 teams — 10 from the United States and 10 international teams.
