Fortnite is marking its ninth birthday with a new collectible: the Birthday Sprite. Unlike most Sprites that are shaped like characters or creatures, this one is shaped like a slice of cake, a fitting nod to the milestone it’s marking.The Sprite has a special ability that can give you a chance to get birthday slices from chests. In the section below, we take a detailed look at finding the Birthday Sprite, what it does, and every variant currently available.Where to find the Birthday Sprite in FortniteThe Birthday Sprite carries “Rare” rarity, which makes it noticeably easier to find than higher-tier Sprites like the Klombo variant. The two most reliable ways to get one are searching Rare Chests and entering Cheat Codes, both of which can be found inside Temple Vaults. The best spots to try are around the Mega Maze Landmark and the Stone Sanctum POI, though Chopped Shop is also worth checking, since it’s historically been a strong location for other Sprite types this season.Because the Sprite is tied to Fortnite’s anniversary, spawn rates appear boosted in and around Birthday Cake locations specifically, so search near those spots. For a secondary route, you can trade Sprites with friends, or simply eliminate an opponent who already has one equipped.
What the Birthday Sprite does in Fortnite
The Birthday Sprite gives players a chance to spawn Cake Slices when opening chests, with that chance increasing as the Sprite levels up. At maximum level, eliminating opponents also spawns Cake Slices directly. Each Cake Slice restores 20 health or shields, making a fully leveled Birthday Sprite a strong substitute for traditional healing items in the late game.Here’s how the chest-spawn chance scales by level:

Leveling the Sprite up requires searching chests, entering Cheat Codes, and extracting other Sprites. The exception is the Bounty Hunter Birthday variant, which only gains XP from eliminations.

As of the v42.20 update, there are five total Birthday Sprite variants to collect:
- Birthday Sprite
- Cheat Master Birthday Sprite
- Gold Birthday Sprite
- Loot Hacker Birthday Sprite
- Bounty Hunter Birthday Sprite
There’s speculation that a sixth, Halloween-themed variant could arrive alongside Fortnitemares 2026, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
