Remember when it was just Horizon and Spider-Man?
The list of PlayStation games represented in LEGO sets has nearly doubled since March, covering far more than just Spider-Man and Horizon.
The LEGO Group’s partnership with PlayStation is scheduled to continue imminently with a new set based on the original console. That set and a new PlayStation gift-with-purchase have added two games fresh to the LEGO portfolio.
While we wait for the release of 72306 PlayStation and the Astro Bot build, here’s a guide to PlayStation’s franchises in LEGO sets so far.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Thanks to the long-running partnership with Marvel and the more recent collaboration with PlayStation, Marvel’s Spider-Man has received two dedicated minifigures. Both of these were convention-exclusive (or intended to be), and they fetch a high price on the aftermarket.
However, the game series has also been referenced in various other builds, including the current 76342 Spider-Man vs. Mysterio: The Daily Bugle. Given the LEGO Group’s willingness to release sets based on PlayStation games since, we can only hope for a dedicated, widely-accessible Marvel’s Spider-Man set in the future.
Horizon
Horizon has been a bountiful game series for the LEGO Group, starting much of the LEGO PlayStation journey with 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck. That set included the titular machine, a Watcher, and an Aloy minifigure.
Since then, Aloy has been joined by Varl in 77037 Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth, which is due to be retired later this year. That set ties in with the LEGO Horizon Adventures game, which is another product of the PlayStation partnership, though not a set.
Gran Turismo
LEGO Speed Champions has seen four sets featuring car designs created specifically for Gran Turismo, all of which tie into the game series. 77253 Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo was released earlier this year and is still available.
The unique car designs are the focus over the game series itself, but there’s also a more specific Gran Turismo reference in a set launching on October 1.
72306 PlayStation includes two game-inspired dioramas. One of these dioramas is for Gran Turismo, including a couple of miniature cars that match the colours of the Speed Champions sets.
Ape Escape
72306 PlayStation also includes an Ape Escape diorama, referencing the 1999 game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. Any future LEGO Ape Escape sets have yet to be confirmed, but the lack of any new games in this series since 2010 makes that unlikely.
Astro Bot
Astro Bot is one of the most recent PlayStation series, joining the LEGO portfolio as part of 40899 Astro Bot. How you can acquire the 276-piece gift-with-purchase has yet to be confirmed, but it’s one for PlayStation or gaming fans to look out for.
