Horizon Forbidden West and Helldivers 2 delisted on Steam as PlayStation issues an update to users

It’s been a rough couple of months for PlayStation, with anti-consumer decisions having caused major backlash from its community, and these recent events haven’t helped, with at least two major first-party games now removed from the Steam store.

Those games are Horizon Forbidden West and Helldivers 2, after it was recently discovered they had both been suddenly delisted from the PC storefront Steam, raising major concerns about long-term availability.

Sony responds to Horizon Forbidden West and Helldivers 2 Steam delisting

As Sony has responded to players’ concerns about Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition and Helldivers 2 no longer being available on Steam, first noticed on Wednesday, September 16, 2026

“We are aware of an issue affecting the availability of select titles on Steam in the UK,” a Sony spokesperson told VGC. “We are working with Valve to address the issue. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

At the time of writing, when you attempt to visit the Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition and Helldivers 2 Steam pages, you’re taken to a ‘site error’ page and met with the messages, “Oops, sorry!” and, “An error was encountered while processing your request: This item is currently unavailable in your region.”

Thankfully, at least, those who had already purchased Horizon Forbidden West and Helldivers 2 can still access both games from their Steam library. They’re just unavailable for new purchases until Sony fixes the issue and restores both games on Steam.

    Sony PlayStation’s all-digital controversy explained

On July 1, 2026, Sony announced the news that, as of January 2028, it will officially ditch physical media, with none of its new games made available to purchase on disc. Unless Sony makes a very unlikely U-turn, the only way customers will be able to buy its games is digitallya box

Fans were understandably angry with this decision. For starters, despite the rise of digital purchases across the entire entertainment industry, there are still a lot of gamers who want to physically own what they buy, rather than a digital purchase which can be removed from libraries with no refund. Recently, Sony did just that by removing hundreds of digital movies from customers’ libraries.

The other concern is that if all PlayStation games are only available on the PlayStation Store, as of January 2028, it means that Sony has full control over what you buy. Not only can it remove your purchases as and when, but you can be charged whatever they please. Essentially, it would feel like Sony owns the monopoly on video game purchases on its digital platform.

For now though, this latest instance of delisting – even if it is a temporary blip – is further evidence to show just how unreliable to digital world can be.
