The Hirayasumi anime just dropped new footage that reveals exactly how the beloved manga will look in motion. The trailer also unveiled the principal voice cast and a key visual ahead of the series’ 2027 premiere.
What the first footage reveals about the Hirayasumi anime
The second teaser trailer for the Hirayasumi anime, released by Viz Media and ShoPro, offers a first look at the adaptation’s tone and animation. The footage follows Hiroto, a relaxed 29-year-old part-timer, through his daily routine in Tokyo’s Asagaya neighborhood. It also sketches his bond with his elderly neighbor, Granny, and his cousin Natsumi’s arrival to study art.
Production +h., the studio behind Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, is animating the series. The key visual places Hiroto and Natsumi in front of the one-story house he inherited from Granny. Supporting characters Hideki, Akari, and Yomogi also appear in the image.
Uchida Yuma, known for voicing Fushiguro Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen, leads the cast as Hiroto. “I hope to have fun portraying Hiroto while staying true to his unpretentious personality and easygoing vibe,” Uchida said.
Takahashi Mayu plays 18-year-old Natsumi, a reserved newcomer from Yamagata who secretly aspires to become a manga artist. “I’m truly delighted to be involved in this wonderful work that I love so much,” Takahashi said
Veteran performer Aikawa Rikako voices Granny, an 83-year-old pensioner who once served school lunches. “‘Hirayasumi’ brings not so much a flutter in the heart, but a catch in the chest, followed by a slow, tender swell of emotion,” Aikawa said. Suezawa Kei directs the series and handles composition and scripts for the NHK General TV premiere.
Shinzo Keigo’s original manga began serialization in 2021 and now spans 10 volumes. It has surpassed 1.7 million copies in print worldwide. The series won Best Serial Comic at Lucca Comics & Games 2024 and the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award. The anime premieres in January 2027, though international streaming plans remain unannounced.
