The actor feels that apart from the sheer scale of the content being put out by the country, it’s the impact that a story can create which makes India’s entertainment industry what it is.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana recently reflected on the changing Indian media and entertainment landscape and the growing importance of stories that connect with audiences while speaking at the 26th edition of FICCI Frames.
Stressing the importance of storytelling, Ayushmann cited the success of Hanuman Ansh and Obsession as prime examples of how content can get an audience if it manages to intrigue, evoke emotions, as well as spark conversation.
The actor feels that apart from the sheer scale of the content being put out by the country, it’s the impact that a story can create which makes India’s entertainment industry what it is.
He said, “Stories are everywhere — films, series, TV, gaming, music, social media content, in all languages, from all corners of India. But for me, India’s media moment doesn’t lie in the quantity of content we are producing but the value we create through that content. And that is happening. We are inspiring people, we are starting conversations and taking them forward, from India to the world. And one conversation can create change. I have experienced that through films I have been part of over the last decade, and that is the most beautiful part of being an artist.”
He further spoke about how the response to Hanuman Ansh and Obsession reinforces the importance of putting the story at the heart of content.
The two titles came from entirely different genres, but their overwhelming reception, as Ayushmann noted, reflected that the audiences today want to get engaged with stories that touch them, intrigue, or stimulate debates.
The actor also pointed out that there is growing diversity in the content being created from different regions in India and in different languages.
With people consuming content in multiple mediums such as movies, TV, games, music, and social media, the reach and impact of a story is no longer bound by geography.
As per Ayushmann, a changing environment offers greater scope for artists who wish to create a lasting legacy. He believes that the power of stories to connect and mobilise people towards a cause, stimulate debates, and change mindsets is what makes art such a special medium.
His comments at FICCI Frames come at a time when Indian content is reaching audiences across formats and markets, creating more opportunities for stories from the country to travel to viewers around the world.
Meanwhile, on the film front, Ayushmann will soon be seen in Udta Teer, releasing on October 9, 2026. Directed by Aakash Kaushik and Amit Malik, it also stars Sara Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor, and Parul Gulati in key roles.
