Thieves break into Vancouver collectibles store, steal high-value Pokémon cards

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it is investigating after thieves broke into a store in the city’s Dunbar neighbourhood and walked off with a number of high-value Pokémon cards.
Officers say they were called to the Royal Card Shop and Collectibles, located on Dunbar Street near West 27th Avenue, shortly before 3 a.m. Monday.
“Investigators found that two masked suspects pried open the rear door of the business and used a stolen Ford pickup truck to rope and pull out the safe,” the VPD said.
“The stolen vehicle was recovered in Surrey later that morning and was found abandoned and still running.”
Police say the vehicle will be analyzed for forensic evidence.
The VPD has released surveillance video footage showing the thieves entering the store and then loading the stolen merchandise onto the truck. Both suspects were wearing all-black clothing.
There have been several incidents involving theft of high-value Pokémon cards around the Lower Mainland just this year. These include:
- January:New Westminster Pokémon card shop hit by thieves;
- March:Burnaby shop hit for the third time by thieves targeting Pokémon cards;
- March:More Pokémon card shops targeted by break-ins in Lower Mainland; and
- April:Man bear-sprayed, robbed of high-value Pokémon cards in Vancouver.
