Sabrina Carpenter accepted an award alongside Madonna during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, but a portion of her speech was bleeped.
Carpenter stood next to the Queen of Pop on Sunday as they accepted the Best Collaboration award for their song, “Bring Your Love.” The honor came minutes after <a href="https://ew.com/madonna-mtv-vmas-2026-performance-celebrity-cameos-12137301″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>the duo took the stage to perform the tune, which was released on Madonna’s Confessions IIalbum earlier this year.
While accepting the Moon Person, fans watching at home were confused when the sound cut out as Carpenter was talking. The singer-actress didn’t make any innuendos, but she did drop a curse word.
Madonna started off the speech “briefly” explaining to the crowd how their collaboration came about. She explained that “five days” after sending an initial inquiry to work together, Madonna was forced to DM Carpenter.
“My team is s—ting themselves backstage,” Carpenter quipped when she took the mic inside the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and got bleeped. “My team replies, just so everybody knows. They so respond to people, but I respond faster. So, direct line to me is always the best way to get in contact.”
Carpenter was just one of the many celebrity guests who joined Madonna when she opened the VMAs on Sunday. Charli XCX, Julia Garner, Debi Mazar, and Seth Rogen all made appearances while the music legend sang a medley of hits from her most recent album.
Earlier this year, Madonna and Carpenter performed the tune together at Coachella. After, the Girl Meets World star shared her gratitude for Madonna on Instagram.
“Madonna ..…I’ve got something i wanna talk about!” she wrote at the time. “Thank you for coming out, bringing your love, and gracing the audience with everything you are + astrology knowledge + the greatest songs of all time.”
The singer went on to say that their performance “was straight out of a dream.” Carpenter concluded: “Spending so much time laughing with you and then above all sharing the stage with you is a privilege I’ll never forget.”
