Juliette’s music transformed from a pop princess to deeply soulful artist
When Nashville first premiered, Juliette appeared more like a sassy pop princess in contrast to Rayna’s veteran status. She knew how to wow a younger crowd with catchy tunes like “Boys and Buses” and “Telescope.” “Telescope” was the series’ first official single and gave Panettiere great publicity while also establishing Juliette. After her mom died, Juliette sang “Nothing in This World Will Break My Heart Again,” letting her vulnerability and pain shine through.
As the seasons progressed, her music became grittier and soulful, and she often sang duets with Avery. He stepped in to help her sing “Tomorrow Never Comes” when Juliette faced backlash from scandal. I love Juliette and Avery. They were both honestly flawed characters who messed up at different times. They loved each other, and they loved their daughter, but because of their past, it was challenging to jump in with both feet. I think they had an intense but realistic relationship at times.
However, the series enjoyed throwing multiple crises at them. They couldn’t just have a cheating or pregnancy crisis. Then Juliette had to become injured and work her way through that. Love was never their problem. They had way too many other issues, and Hayden Panettiere and Jonathan Jacken delivered layered performances every time. You cried with them, and you rooted for them to reconnect again.
