Her career as an infant was soon followed by roles as a child actor on the soap operas One Life to Live and Guiding Light, before her film debut came in 1998—with an appearance in The Object of My Affection and a voice role as Dot in A Bug’s Life. Her work in the latter even led to a Grammy nomination for Panettiere, who was just 10 when she was up for Best Spoken Word Album for Children thanks to the movie’s read-along album.
Panettiere continued that upward trajectory with Remember the Titans, Ally McBeal, Raising Helen, and Ice Princess, before a lead role in Bring It On: All or Nothing the same year as her major breakout role as cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes.
She would later star as Amanda Knox in a Lifetime movie about Knox’s Italy murder trial in 2011, the same year she was cast as fan-favorite Kirby Reed in Scream 4. Her work in the latter horror movie was so beloved, fans rallied for her to return to the franchise—despite appearing to die—something which eventually happened in 2023’s Scream VI.
Panettiere also starred opposite Connie Britton on Nashville, and appeared in the 2015 Until Dawn video game. Her final role was 2026’s Sleepwalker, a direct-to-video thriller.
