Gundam Build Divers is now available on Crunchyroll in India with Japanese audio and English subtitles. The anime follows a group of young players who enter a virtual world to compete in battles using custom-built Gundam model kits, combining the franchise’s giant-robot action with an online gaming setting.
The story centres on Riku Mikami, a teenager who joins Gunpla Battle Nexus Online, a virtual reality game where players can control their models and battle opponents from around the world. Riku enters the game with his friends Yukio and Momoka, hoping to improve his skills and compete with experienced players.
Their adventures take an unexpected turn when Riku meets Sarah, a mysterious player who has no Gunpla of her own. Strange events begin occurring within the game, including the appearance of players known as Mass-Divers, who use illegal software to strengthen their models. Riku and his allies form their own group, Build Divers, and become involved in a conflict that threatens the game itself.
The series premiered in Japan in April 2018 and ran for 25 episodes. Shinya Watada directed the anime, with Noboru Kimura handling the scripts and Juri Toida designing the characters. Sunrise produced the series, which was followed by Gundam Build Divers Re in 2019.
The wider Gundam franchise began with Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979 and is known for its giant robots, military conflicts, and stories set across different timelines. The Build series places greater emphasis on Gunpla, the plastic model kits based on the franchise’s mobile suits. In Gundam Build Divers, the focus shifts from physical model-building competitions to battles inside a shared virtual space.
