November is officially underway, which means that Grand Theft Auto VI will be in the hands of gamers before you know it.
The game’s pre-load begins on November 12 but ahead of that date, it’s come to light that PlayStation is seemingly outlining a new requirement PS5 users will have to adhere to in order to get their hands on GTA VI.
It’s been a tough year for PlayStation, albeit one largely of its own making.
Marvel’s Wolverine went down like a fart in a lift, although the reception to that title was nothing compared to the backlash against PlayStation’s decision to go all-digital from January 2028.
From then on, all new PlayStation games – first and third party – will no longer be offered as a physical disc.
What PlayStation could perhaps not have foreseen was the PlayStation 5 being jailbroken – the cherry on top of what has been a rather unfortunate year.
A console being jailbroken essentially means that its built-in software restrictions have been bypassed following users taking advantage of security exploits.
That allows people to run custom programmes on the console, opening up the worlds of emulation and essentially allowing users to pirate most games
It’s for this reason that multiple firmware updates have been rolled out in recent weeks as PlayStation seeks to identify what’s been exploited to prevent it from happening again.

The latest firmware update will seemingly be required in order to access GTA VI
It was in early October that a firmware update surfaced with the belief being that it would be a requirement to have this installed in order to play GTA VI.
The intention was to prevent GTA VI from being accessed on a jailbroken console, but consoles have contonued to find themselves exploited.
In a new report, as spotted by AltChar, PlayStation Game Size is now claiming on Twitter/X that it’s firmware update 14.22 that PlayStation 5 users will need in order to accessGTA VI as the fight back against jailbreaks continues.
Firmware update 14.22 follows on from the previously required 14.10.
PlayStation Game Size had tweeted, “Grand Theft Auto VI requires at least PS5 Update 14.10.00.00,” before recently quote-tweeting that post with the updated caption “14.22.00.00”.
Beyond this, nothing has been detailed for the new firmware update, although PlayStation doesn’t typically outline what’s coming as jailbreakers could then just act again.
It perhaps goes without saying, but you should never jailbreak your console.
If you’re found to have done that, it’s very likely that your PlayStation Network account will be banned for life, eliminating you from ever accessing any of the games in your library.
Thankfully, the jailbreaking debacle has seemed to have quietened down as of late, so perhaps PlayStation has finally made a breakthrough in building up its defences.
Here’s to hoping for a smooth end to 2026, including an unproblematic rollout of GTA VI. That game has had enough challenges as it is with CYBERLEEK’s reign of terror.
