Cath Bowie from Moray has been recognised by Guinness World Records
A 78-year-old Scottish grandmother has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest female Fortnite streamer.
Cath Bowie from Moray, known online as grumpygran1948, was introduced to Fortnite by her grandson in 2017 and has since become a celebrated figure in the gaming community.
Starting her gaming journey at the age of 70, Bowie found her passion in Fortnite, despite scepticism from her grandson about her ability to attract viewers.
Now, she regularly streams her gameplay to an audience of approximately 24,000 followers, marking her achievement in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027.
Reflecting on her journey, Bowie said, “I had at last found a game for me. Although I have tried several other games, I have never found the excitement that I get from Fortnite.”
Bowie’s story highlights her determination and love for the gaming community, as she continues to engage with and inspire her followers. She plays everyday, enjoying the challenge and social interaction the game brings.
She expressed her gratitude for the recognition, saying, “To be a Guinness World Records title holder means so much to me personally, and it’s such a wonderful thing to share with my supportive community.”
Cath Bowie’s accomplishment challenges societal expectations of age in gaming, sending the message that, as she says, “You are never too old to start gaming.”
Alice Bell, editor of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027, lauded the diverse representation in this year’s edition, celebrating inspiring gamers from various generations and cultures.
Cath Bowie’s story is a testament to the inclusive and vibrant nature of the gaming world, encouraging more people, regardless of age, to join the community.
