On July 24, PlayStation Network experienced a major technical outage. Thousands of users around the world were unable to log in to their accounts, access the PlayStation Store, and play digital copies of games that require a network connection.
The problems were widely reported by users of the DownDetector service and contributors to the PS5 subreddit. At the same time, the official PlayStation services status page did not display any problems for a long time, although players complained of blocking access even to downloaded content.
Despite Sony’s claims that the PlayStation Network is still up and running, many players have started reporting connection issues. For example, PSN users trying to join the Marvel Tokon open beta are getting a «server busy» message. This issue is not just affecting Tokon, but PlayStation players in general, who are generally unable to connect to most features of the platform.
Currently, some users are noting that the connection is gradually starting to recover.
Last month, Sony announced that it would stop releasing new PlayStation game discs entirely starting in January 2028, leaving many gamers fuming over the network outage. «As if I wasn’t already annoyed enough with PlayStation lately, I finally have a day off to play games and the network is down,» wrote one Twitter user, X.
