GHOST Fans Support Altadena, California’s Historic Mountain View Mausoleum

A fan community inspired by the theatrical rock band GHOST is turning its affection for one of the band’s recognizable filming locations into something very real: preservation support for Mountain View Mausoleum and new attention for the Altadena, California community around it.

GHOST uses the Mountain View Mausoleum, which was built in 1923 by architect Cecil E. Bryan (a former associate of Frank Lloyd Wright),as the visual and canonical inspiration for the “Ministry”, the headquarters of its dark ecclesiastical lore. The band filmed its March 2022 live performance of “Call Me Little Sunshine” for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” inside the mausoleum, as well as multiple promotional photos and videos.

Mountain View Mausoleum is a historic, architecturally significant Altadena landmark and an active place of remembrance. To GHOST fans around the world, it is also recognizable as a filming location associated with the band’s fictional “Ministry”. Fans came to know the location through GHOST‘s elaborate fictional world; over time, many began to care about the real place behind the fictional story.

That connection has already produced measurable results. Mystic Ministry, an American fan-led events group, has raised $3,902.47 for Mountain View Mausoleum‘s recovery and preservation efforts and currently holds the No. 1 position for the largest one-time donation on Mountain View‘s fundraising leaderboard.

Now the group is building on that momentum. On Saturday, October 3, Mystic Ministry will host three limited-capacity, preservation-focused tours of Mountain View Mausoleum, with a maximum of 20 guests per tour. The experience is being developed with Mountain View and will introduce visitors not only to the property’s connection to GHOST, but also to its history and architecture, preservation and conservation needs, the impact of the Eaton Fire, and the continuing work required to care for a century-old landmark.

Amati Avaul, founder of Mystic Ministry, commented: “GHOST has always been about more than the music. There’s this incredible world the band has created, and the fans don’t just watch it — we participate in it, build community around it and find ways to make it meaningful in our own lives. Mountain View became part of that world for us. Once you view the Mausoleum, read about its history, you realize it’s so much more than a filming location. It’s a rare and beautiful place, filled with history, artistry and memory, and places like that simply can’t be replaced. Mystic Ministry wanted to take the passion and creativity that exist in this fandom and turn them into something positive and tangible. If loving this band brought us to Mountain View, then helping preserve Mountain View — and showing some love to the community around it — feels like a pretty wonderful way to give something back.”

Mystic Ministry and participating creators have a documented direct social follower base of more than 200,000. Their content can be amplified into the wider global GHOST fan community, which numbers in the millions, while an estimated 150,000–250,000 active GHOST fans are in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The October event is also the kickoff for a minimum three-month storytelling campaign about Mountain View‘s history and preservation initiatives, Altadena’s resilience, and the local businesses and community organizations helping the area recover. Current plans include twice-monthly updates on the Mountain View fundraising effort and weekly spotlight content featuring participating businesses in and around Altadena. The goal is to encourage fans who care about Mountain View to widen the circle: discover Altadena, visit local restaurants and cafés, stay at area hotels, shop with independent retailers, meet local artists and makers, and learn about the people and organizations rebuilding after the Eaton Fire.

Mystic Ministry is inviting local businesses to participate through promotional and cash sponsorships, as well as in-kind support, including goods, services, hospitality, visitor offers and other creative partnerships. Participating sponsors can receive recognition through event promotion and the group’s ongoing social storytelling, helping direct fan attention and visitor spending toward the surrounding community. The idea is simple: help preserve Mountain View, help GHOST fans discover Altadena, and use the reach of an international fandom to tell a larger story of recovery, resilience and community.

There is an undeniable twist to the story: GHOST is famous for theatrical irreverence and playfully subverting religious imagery, yet a fan community inspired by its fictional “Ministry” has become a leading fundraiser for a real mausoleum and is now looking for ways to support its neighbors. What began with music and mythology has evolved into preservation, philanthropy and community stewardship.
