FX’s American Horror Story: 13 is the ultimate nightmare reunion

The newest star-splattered instalment premieres on 25 September, reuniting characters from throughout the twisted anthology

Lucky number 13? In FX’s American Horror Story: 13, almost certainly not.

This horror anthology has spent more than a decade terrifying viewers, proving that nightmares can come from just about anywhere. The show reinvents itself with each instalment, so even longtime fans never know what’s waiting behind the next door.

Now AHS is embracing horror’s favourite unlucky number. American Horror Story: 13 turns the anthology into a super-chapter, bringing past scares into the present for one big crossover.

What we know so far about FX’sAmerican Horror Story: 13

Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson) stares into a heavily cracked circular mirror with a distressed expression. Her hand rests gently against the broken glass while her reflection mimics her worried gaze. She wears a black ruffled top accented with a vintage brooch, alongside dangling crystal earrings that contrast against the warm, dimly lit red background.

This chapter is a love letter to AHS history, albeit one written in blood. A present-day crisis pulls in characters from earlier instalments as the number 13 keeps showing up with increasingly sinister consequences.

What is FX’sAmerican Horror Story: 13about?

FX’s American Horror Story has been a global phenomenon since its 2011 launch, raking in more than 100 Emmy® nominations along the way. Now it’s back for a much-anticipated 13th instalment that lives up to the number’s ominous reputation. The new instalment brings together an all-star cast, many of whom are back in fan-favourite roles. AHS: 13 continues to build on the anthology’s legacy that has spawned a legion of dedicated fans and racked up more than 700 million streaming hours worldwide. Which iconic horrors will return to haunt the halls in 13? What new terrors await? Light your candles, draw your pentagrams, and prepare for a supreme surprise.

How many episodes will FX’sAmerican Horror Story: 13have?

The magic number strikes again. Instalment 13 contains (surprise!) 13 spooky episodes. Three of those episodes will be unleashed on on premiere night, followed by new episodes each week until the finale on 30 October, just in time for Halloween.

    IsAHS: 13the final chapter?

There’s no confirmation that the 13th chapter is the anthology’s end. It’s framed as a major crossover event rather than a farewell, with future instalments still up in the air.

Newcomers Joey Pollari, Paul Anthony Kelly, and John Waters join returning fan favourites, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Jessica Lange.

Paul Anthony Kelly and John Waters make their AHS debut, following Kelly’s breakout role in FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

    Returning cast

After an 8-year absence, Jessica Lange is back as Constance Langdon and more!

Sarah Paulson returns in many of her fan-favourite roles, including Cordelia Goode.

Fresh off his role in FX’s body horror show The Beauty, Evan Peters revisits Tate Langdon and Kai Anderson, and steps back into James Patrick March’s immaculate shoes.

AHS: 13 is a treat for viewers who recognise characters from earlier instalments, but newcomers to the show can easily jump right in to follow Ben, this chapter’s protagonist.

Created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story has redefined the genre with instalments featuring a creepy murder house, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel, and the apocalypse itself.

What happened in the last instalment?

Anna Victoria Alcott (Emma Roberts) lies on her back in a hospital bed, staring wide-eyed and terrified toward the ceiling with a pale complexion and slightly parted lips, wearing a light blue medical gown with a dark blue geometric pattern against a sterile white pillow.

The show premiered in 2011. More than a decade later, it’s still finding new ways to ruin bedtime.
