You may not know Asmongold, but millions of people do. Born Zachariah “Zack” Hoyt in 1990, Asmongold is a Twitch streamer, YouTuber, and gaming commentator who built his enormous following playing and discussing World of Warcraft. In recent years, however, his influence has expanded well beyond gaming. Hoyt has increasingly become a prominent voice on political and social issues, particularly among young men and gamers, and has emerged as an influential figure in the online right.
The far-right provocateur Nick Fuentes has embraced Asmongold as an ally. “Him and I are on the same team and he’s the GOAT,” Fuentes has said, describing Hoyt as a fellow traveler in the online right.
Hoyt has also been unusually explicit about his intentions. In a report examining his comments about migrants in the United Kingdom, Media Matters for America wrote that “Hoyt has a clear agenda,” quoting him as saying: “I want to make one thing extremely clear. My goal with talking about this stuff is to radicalize people as much as possible. I show this and I portray this stuff in the most extreme and negative way so I can make people angry and they’ll be willing to follow the solutions that I want them to follow. Because I don’t want people to get this confused. If you don’t have kids, and you’re not a gamer, here’s the skinny: Twitch is a live-streaming platform where people broadcast themselves playing video games, chatting, creating art, making music, and more. Viewers can watch streams in real time, interact with streamers through live chat, and support their favorite creators through subscriptions, donations, and other features. Owned by Amazon but operated as a separate brand, Twitch has grown into one of the largest online communities for live entertainment and gaming.
According to the Global Project Against Hate And Extremism (GPAHE), “Following the migrant crisis in Ceuta, Spain, in August 2026, where a plethora of right-wing influencers and extremists fomented hate and violence against migrants, Asmongold stood out for his extremism, as he called for all migrants to be shot, saying “I’d shoot whoever… if it’s kids, women, men, whoever.” (https://globalextremism.org/post/who-is-asmongold/).
Asmongold’s comments caused Twitch to temporarily suspend him. GPAHE reported that he has more than 2.6 million followers combined on his two channels. He’s back now.
GPAHE also pointed out that “Hoyt (Asmongold) got his start making videos of himself playing World of Warcraft, an online role-playing game that he estimated in 2022 he had played for over 36,000 hours. Hoyt’s gaming career peaked between 2021 and 2023, during which he won ‘Best MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) Streamer’ in 2021 and 2022, and was nominated for the same award in 2023. During this time, Hoyt cultivated a fan base, dubbed “roaches,” after he gained online infamy for being unkempt: not showering for months, refusing to do laundry, having a trash-laden room, and being undeterred by cockroaches climbing on his body while streaming. For the most part, Hoyt’s streaming was centered on gaming and online gossip.”
Media Matters pointed out that “As of July 8, Hoyt has over 6.4 million subscribers on his two most active YouTube accounts, [which] along with billions of views…. have over 9 billion lifetime views combined, having amassed at least 2.4 billion views in 2025 alone. He also has “nearly 2.8 million followers across his other platforms, including Twitch, Kick, and Rumble. Hoyt’s Zackrawrr Twitch channel has over 2.4 million followers; his Kick account has over 300,000 followers; and his Rumble account has over 60,000 followers. According to Media Matters, Asmongold “has used … ‘extreme and negative’ content … to argue that anti-ICE protesters should be placed in ‘camps’ for ‘mandatory labor,’ that Trump should go ‘Old Testament’ on political opponents, and that immigration enforcement and deportations should be more aggressive.” He’s also advised 2028 presidential candidates that if they pledge to use the National Guard against protesters, denaturalize citizens, and act like a ‘psycho,’ then his vote is up for grabs.”
While it is unclear how much money Asmongold makes, his revenue steams are diverse, including; Twitch subscriptions and advertising, YouTube advertising, YouTube memberships, Sponsorships, Other platform revenues, and various business interests.
Asmongold is part gamer, part entertainer, and part political commentator. His career demonstrates how a personality can build an enormous audience through entertainment and then expand that audience into political commentary. With millions of followers, a deliberately provocative style, and an explicitly stated desire to “radicalize” audiences, his evolution illustrates how online entertainment personalities can become powerful political voices without ever beginning as traditional political commentators.
