If you don’t own a Nintendo Switch 2, or if Mario Kart World just isn’t your cup of tea, we have a free alternative to consider.

Nintendo has long been the king of kart racing games, and while other gaming legends like Sonic The Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot have made plays for the crown, Super Mario has always managed to cling to his title.

This fan-made alternative won’t be booting him off his throne anytime soon, but it is free and very good fun. You’ll also find it in the last game you’d probably expect: Fortnite.

Using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite, X user SmmOan has released MOTOCART, a bike-racing minigame with over 40 tracks, a battle mode and even a ranking system.

SmmOan shared their creation through a social media post earlier this week, and said the project has taken over three years of development. It can be accessed through the following map code: 9400-9199-9383.

Some stunning homages to Mario Kart are paid. There’s a gorgeous recreation of Rainbow Road which looks like it’d be divine to drive down, and it’s just one of many.

    Fortnite Motocart-

Like Mario Kart, you’ll also get access to randomised items, which in this case are just weapons from various iterations of Fortnite, and there are dash panels littered throughout the tracks for a quick boost.

It’s all really impressive. The only downside was that the map’s thumbnail was initially made with AI, but after SmmOan shared their creation, Fortnite fans quickly jumped in with an assist. The current thumbnail wasn’t made with AI and looks more representative of the finished product.

As we said before, it’s not going to knock Mario Kart off its pedestal anytime soon, but it’s free-to-play and might provide a couple of hours of fun in multiplayer with some friends. All you need is the map code, which we’ve provided above.

The current state of Mario Kart

MOTOCART isn’t going to keep Nintendo up at night, but what should is the poorly managed Mario Kart World.

Recently, Nintendo announced that it’d be discontinuing the Mario Kart Tourmobile gamewith no plans for an offline version, which would be somewhat understandable if anything was being done with the Nintendo Switch 2 game.

Since its launch last year, little has been done to Mario Kart World, which is clearing the way for alternatives like MOTOCART to drift in and garner some attention.

There’s even a version of Mario Kart that you can play for free in a YouTube video. We’re not kidding.

To say it’s one of Nintendo’s most-successful franchises, it’s baffling to see it so underutilised at the moment, especially when the Nintendo Switch 2 is slowly gaining more notoriety.

Hopefully, some new tracks and characters are added soon, but in the meantime, be sure to log into Fortnite and check out MOTOCART, as well as all the other free alternatives crawling out of the woodwork at the moment.
