A new rumor suggests Marvel Studios may rework Armor Wars into a full Iron Man movie for the MCU’s next saga. Scooper James Mack teased “big news about the next MCU saga and Tony Stark” on X. The rumor indicates the project could introduce a new version of the iconic character.
Marvel Studios originally announced Armor Wars as a Disney+ series in December 2020. The studio later redeveloped it as a theatrical film in September 2022. Don Cheadle was set to headline the project as James Rhodes, also known as War Machine.
The original story would have followed Rhodey dealing with the fallout of Tony Stark’s death. It also explored his technology falling into the wrong hands after Avengers: Endgame. Updates on the project have remained scarce since the film redevelopment announcement.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude the Multiverse Saga in the coming years. Many fans expect a soft reboot of the MCU after those films wrap up. That reset could create the perfect opportunity to reintroduce iconic characters in new forms.
Robert Downey Jr. is currently set to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, not as Iron Man. However, Marvel Studios could reportedly use the reworked project to launch a younger Tony Stark. That approach would not necessarily undo the emotional impact of the original character’s sacrifice.
