Fortnite v42.30 patch notes: Fortnitemares, FNAF, free skin, Predator, new Sprites, and more

Halloween has arrived on the Fortnite island earlier than usual. Fortnite update v42.30 launches Fortnitemares 2026 on October 1, the earliest start the annual event has had in years. For comparison, Fortnitemares 2025 began on October 9, and the 2024 edition kicked off on October 12.

The Fortnite patch is packed with horror crossovers led by Five Nights at Freddy’s, three freshly leaked collabs, a free Jack-A-Nape skin, two new Halloween Sprites, and a handy quality-of-life change. Here’s everything new in the Fortnitemares patch notes and what it means for the final month of Chapter 7 Season 4.

Fortnitemares 2026 runs under the tagline “The Game Is Cursed,” which ties into the gaming theme of Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. As the season is expected to wrap up at the end of October, the event should run for the entire month, making v42.30 the likely final major update of the season.

Fortnitemares 2026 collabs and map changes

Epic Games revealed the official Fortnitemares 2026 key art on September 28, confirming crossovers with Five Nights at Freddy’s, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Slender Man, Beetlejuice, Black Clover, and The Purge. In addition to the collabs, Battlewoods transforms into Gravegate, giving the area a darker look for Halloween.

    Fortnite Predator and Hotel Hazbin

Freddy Krueger is reportedly set to appear as a boss at a new Elm Street location, while the Pumpkin Launcher and Witch Broom appear to be returning to the loot pool. However, Epic Games hasn’t confirmed every leaked item, so some of the Halloween gear might arrive later in October.

Five Nights at Freddy’s arrives in Fortnite

The headline crossover is Five Nights at Freddy’s, which Epic Games officially revealed on September 27 after teasing it four days earlier. FNAF has been selective with gaming collaborations, with Dead by Daylight landing its first major crossover in 2025. Fortnite’s version arrives with more gameplay content than most Fortnitemares crossovers.

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria joins the Battle Royale map as a new POI, complete with jumpscares, security camera feeds, and hostile animatronic bosses. The reveal trailer suggests players can also transform into the animatronics and hunt other players, flipping the script on the original 2014 game, where the animatronics did the hunting.

    Content Details
Skins Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy
Styles A Withered style for each skin, based on FNAF 2
Cosmetics Freddy Kicks, plus Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica Back Blings
Jam Track The Living Tombstone’s FNAF song (teased)
New POI Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria with animatronic bosses
Price V-Bucks, through the Item Shop

The Freddy Fazbear skin appears to be reactive, as his face falls apart in the trailer the same way it does during the original game’s jumpscares. It’s important to note that the FNAF skins aren’t free, and Epic Games hasn’t confirmed their V-Bucks prices yet.

Predator, Hazbin Hotel, and Hollow Knight collabs leaked

Beyond the confirmed lineup, Hypex, the most popular Fortnite leaker, has revealed three more collabs: Predator, Hazbin Hotel, and Hollow Knight. None of them appeared in the official Fortnitemares 2026 key art, and Epic Games has only teased Predator so far.

Predator Battle Pass skin in Chapter 2 Season 5
    Hazbin Hotel First official crossover
    Hollow Knight First official crossover

Predator is the only returning face. The hunter first arrived as a Chapter 2 Season 5 Battle Pass reward in January 2021, unlocked through the Jungle Hunter Quests. Epic Games had already hinted at the comeback, as early Fortnitemares teasers featured the Predator’s signature vocals and three-pointed targeting laser.

Hazbin Hotel and Hollow Knight, on the other hand, are making their first official Fortnite appearances. Prime Video’s demonic musical series is a natural Fortnitemares pick, while Hollow Knight fits Override’s gaming-legends theme, <a href="https://comicvibe.com/modelo-brings-back-noche-especial-for-the-holidays/” title=”Modelo Brings Back Noche Especial For The Holidays”>especially after Team Cherry finally released Hollow Knight: Silksong in September 2025.

    Free Halloween skin in Fortnite

Fortnitemares 2026 also brings Jack-A-Nape, a free skin that every player can unlock without spending V-Bucks. Free Halloween skins have become a Fortnitemares tradition. Last year, players needed to earn 15 levels to unlock Pyg the Butcher for free, and we expect Jack-A-Nape’s unlock window to close when the event ends. As a result, it’s best not to leave the grind for the final week of October.

To unlock the free Fortnitemares skin in 2026, players need to finish 26 event quests. While completing the questline, players can also unlock a few other free skins in Fortnite.

New Halloween Sprites in Fortnite v42.30

Sprites get a Halloween makeover with two new companions confirmed for Fortnitemares 2026: the Pumpkin Sprite and the Vampire Sprite. In addition to the confirmed pair, early patch note breakdowns suggest a third Halloween Sprite could join them later in the event.

    Sprite Ability
Pumpkin Sprite Builds a Pumpkin Head over time that protects you from headshots
Vampire Sprite Grants siphon based on damage dealt, up to 50% at max level

Both abilities come from datamined files, so the final values could change once the official patch notes go live. However, the Vampire Sprite looks like the early favorite, as a 50% siphon at max level would reward aggressive players in a season dominated by movement Sprites like Sonic and Jackrabbit. It will be interesting to see if these will become some of the rarest Fortnite Sprites.

The Vampire Sprite also seems to draw inspiration from the Parasites introduced in Chapter 2 Season 7. Epic Games hasn’t confirmed how to unlock either companion, but Cheat Code Chests have been the mainair to follow suit

Quality-of-life change in Fortnite update v42.30

Fortnite has improved how it handles streamed content with the latest update. The game now automatically balances your internet connection between gameplay and streamed assets, always prioritizing your match performance first. If bandwidth is limited, Fortnite reserves what it needs to keep gameplay running smoothly, while any extra connection capacity is used to load cosmetics and parts of the world faster.

Epic also plans to add a High-quality Textures install option in the future, giving players the choice to download these assets directly instead of streaming them.

After purchasing new cosmetics, players can use the value calculator to check the worth of their Fortnite accounts, which is amplified by owning one of the rarest skins in the game.
