Fortnite Update 5.14 Released on July 16 for Hot Bat Summer

Epic Games is back today with another major update for Fortnite, and this brings the game to version 41.20. For console gamers, you’ll see this update appear as Fortnite update 5.14, and this should be a significant download

Players can expect a lot of Batman-themed content, as the new update is called Hot Bat Summer, marking Batman’s return to the game in the summer (duh)

Fortnite’s Update on July 16 Brings the Bat

Overview

• The centerpiece features several DC-themed characters riding a Batman-themed beach buggy on a tropical island while celebrating with confetti.
• The event combines Batman aesthetics with a summer/beach theme, including swimsuits, palm trees, sunshine, and vacation-inspired cosmetics.

New Gameplay

• Players can complete weekly quests to earn a Batman Sprite.
• Multiple Sprite variants are shown in different colors and effects.
• Two new gameplay items are highlighted:
  • Batman Grapnel Gun
  • Batman Beach Buggy

New Map Landmarks

• A new Bat Cave location is teased.
• Two screenshots show:
  • A large underground cave with platforms and a Bat-symbol landing area.
  • A control room filled with monitors, computers, and Batman technology.

New Shop Items

The right side advertises several Batman- and DC-themed cosmetics, including:

• A Batman beach outfit with a towel over the shoulders.
• A Harley Quinn summer outfit.
• A Batman-themed dog cosmetic.
• A Catwoman-inspired swimsuit skin.
• A Poison Ivy-inspired summer skin.
• Batman-themed gauntlets/gloves.

General

• Resolved an issue where Jam Track previews in the Item Shop were not playing back correctly

• Fixed a visual glitch with objects and vegetation flickering when moving your camera on Nintendo Switch 2

• Fixed inconsistent Pilot Style names for The Guardian Outfit

• Fixed a visual bug where some Pickaxes could appear as the default Pickaxe during matches

• Exotic weapons now correctly display Wraps when equipped

Mobile

• Rotating the camera with touch input now feels smoother and more responsive

• Improved the Tap Anywhere firing mode for weapons with a charging mechanic

  • Tap once to charge the weapon, then tap again to fire or cancel the charge

• Fixed a persistent crash when loading into a Battle Royale match on Samsung Galaxy S9 devices

• Fixed a scenario where the “Cannot do that now” error would incorrectly appear when Automatic Actions are enabled

• Auto Fire now triggers correctly on an enemy hiding in the same bush as you

Battle Royale & Zero Build

• Dealing Shield damage now counts toward Aura Sprite’s Shock Rock charge and triggers Fire Sprite’s burst damage effect

• Fixed an issue where dropping a Sprite to extract it turned it into a Water Sprite and wouldn’t grant Sprite Dust, or add it to your collection

• Water Sprite once again heals you in water

• Fixed an issue with camera effects (motion blur or FOV changes) staying on screen after being rebooted by a teammate who was using Vehicle boost or Seven Sliders

• The Chest at one of the bunk beds on the ship at Cluster Coast can now be opened without issues

Arenas

• Fixed an issue with the ‘Unready’ prompt box at the end of the Victory screen

Fortnite OG

• Fixed a visual glitch where a placeholder image appeared instead of the OG Pass image

• Bullet shells are now correctly ejected when firing the Burst SMG, including Spectate Mode and Replays

• The Giant Fish sign between Mega Mall and Salty Springs can now be damaged and destroyed as expected

• The base of the red antenna northwest of Fatal Fields now correctly shows Weak Points and takes weapon damage

• Destroying the foundations of a house containing the Pizza Pit altar now destroys the rest of the building as intended

• Dropping the Infinity Blade during a Leap Attack no longer causes looping audio

• The pickup truck at the entrance to the Desert biome now has correct textures

• Removed the floating Vending Machine incorrectly placed at The Block

• Fixed texture mismatch on the Loot Lake islands when viewed from afar

• Fixed visible seamlines and mismatched textures around The Devourer’s footprints, Happy Hamlet, Pressure Plant and Jungle biome

• Resolved visible seamlines and texture mismatches at the outskirts near Polar Peak, Paradise Palms and Starry Suburbs

• Removed a visible seamline on Starter Island and texture mismatch above the tunnel near the Volcano

Save the World

• You will now receive Mission rewards and Battle Pass XP without delay after returning to Homebase

• Flinger Mist Monsters no longer spawn an extra Husk when attempting to throw one

• You can now join a Deliver the Bomb Mission in progress from within Homebase

• Resolved a few spots in the Survivor Station, Armory and Hero Loadout sections of Homebase where players could get stuck between plants, pipes and other assets, needing to restart the game to free themselves

LEGO Fortnite

• Storm Chaser Base Camp marker now reappears on the map when the player approaches it

• Fixed incorrect minifig movement behavior when exiting a chair or other object

• Minifigs are no longer displaying as invisible

• Fixed a Network Connection error some players received after defeating the Shatter Spawn

• Fixed player-placed assets re-rendering when stepping on parts of the destroyed house

• After re-entering the world, the Dreadnought Dirigible can be flown again

• Rancors are no longer spawning in worlds where the setting to disable enemies was toggled on

• Inconsistencies with the Dragon Air Balloon have been mitigated after it was destroyed

• Brick Life:

  • Phone Boots are now working as intended, and players can interact with them

Fortnite Festival

• During Local Multiplayer sessions on PlayStation, players should no longer experience crashes

• Button prompts now display correctly in certain control configurations

• The streak multiplier UI now displays properly during gameplay

• [Pro Drums] Resolved an issue where holding down multiple Kick inputs simultaneously could cause them to interfere with each other

• Fixed an issue where exiting a jam could leave your character moving at a reduced walking speed until starting another jam

• Jam Quick Mix UI appears correctly now on published UEFN islands

🛠️ Known Issues We’re Working On

General

• Some Emotes may not play as intended after opening the Emote Wheel

• All Vehicles are currently incorrectly labeled with the Reload tag in the Locker, despite being unavailable in Reload

• Supergirl may lack some facial textures when emoting

  • Fixed in 41.30

• Character’s head animation on all Billie Eilish Outfits may display incorrectly when using the Popcorn Tears Emote

  • Fixed in 41.30

Fortnite Festival

• [Pro Drums] A small number of songs feature Gold star thresholds that are difficult to achieve without Double Kick

• [Pro Lead/Pro Bass] The green fret on the guitar peripherals can stop responding during Local Multiplayer

• [General] Main Stage stand-ins may erroneously display the same cosmetics

• [General] Gold Band Star VFX overlaps other UI elements

• [General] Auto-emote setting may not always apply properly

• [General] The cursor will snap to the center of the screen when switching tabs in the Leaderboards
