Spyro the Dragon has landed in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 (Override), and Epic Games made a smart call by bringing him in as a Sidekick rather than a full outfit. His smaller dragon proportions actually suit the companion format perfectly. He runs alongside your character without dominating the screen, reacts to what happens around you during a match, and comes with unlockable styles that give Spyro fans a reason to keep him equipped well past the Override season window.

How do you get the Spyro the Dragon Sidekick in Fortnite?

The Spyro Sidekick is a direct Item Shop purchase with no free route and no tournament requirement. It went live on August 28, 2026, at 8 PM ET alongside the Crash Bandicoot collaboration. The confirmed price is 1,500 V-Bucks on its own, or you can grab it as part of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon Bundle for 3,000 V-Bucks, which bundles both cosmetics at a discount.

The Sidekick will leave the Item Shop on September 11, 2026, at 8 PM ET, so the window to grab it is limited.

    Step-by-step purchase guide

    1. Launch Fortnite and make sure the game has updated to the current version so the new Item Shop listings load correctly.
    2. Open the Item Shop from the main lobby.
    3. Scroll to the featured collaboration section at the top and find the Crash Bandicoot area where Spyro is grouped.
    4. Select either the standalone Spyro the Dragon Sidekick (1,500 V-Bucks) or the full bundle (3,000 V-Bucks).
    5. Hold the Purchase button until the circle fills and the transaction confirms.
    6. Open your Locker, navigate to the Sidekick slot, and equip Spyro.

Once equipped, Spyro appears beside your character in the lobby and follows you into matches.

What does the Spyro Sidekick actually do in a match?

Spyro is a purely cosmetic companion with no gameplay advantage attached. He stays close to your character as you move around the island, reacts to events happening around you during play, and cannot take damage. Enemies cannot see your Sidekick during a match, but your teammates can.

Sidekicks work across Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, and Fortnite Festival, so Spyro is not locked to a single mode.

    What makes Sidekicks different?

The reaction system is what separates Sidekicks from Back Blings. Spyro is not just sitting on your back; he responds to what is happening in the match, which makes him feel more alive than a static cosmetic.

What styles can you unlock for Spyro?

Spyro ships with his modern Spyro Reignited Trilogy look as the base design, but the collaboration includes additional styles you can unlock through Sidekick Points earned after purchase. Here is the full reward list:

The Scales (Green) style and the A Realm Beyond appearance variant give returning Spyro fans something to work toward beyond just owning the base Sidekick. The extra styles are tied to Sidekick Quests, which appear at the bottom of the Quests tab under the Sidekicks section.

    important
Sidekick Quests track XP earned with Spyro equipped. Make sure Spyro is your active Sidekick before you start grinding, or none of your progress will count toward the reward goals.

How do you complete Sidekick Quests fast?

Most Sidekick Quest goals ask you to earn XP while your Sidekick is equipped. The fastest ways to stack that XP are:

    • Surviving storm circles in Battle Royale
    • Completing accolades (first eliminations, long-range shots, survival time milestones)
    • Playing LEGO Fortnite or Festival with Spyro equipped
    • Loading XP-granting Creative islands from the Discover menu

Creative islands in the Discover menu are the most consistent farming method if you want to knock out quest progress quickly. Open Discover, pick an island that grants XP, queue it with Spyro equipped, and run multiple sessions until the reward unlocks.

    Is the bundle worth it?

The 3,000 V-Buck bundle makes sense only if you also want the Crash Bandicoot skin and were not planning to earn it through the tournament route. If Spyro is your primary target, the standalone 1,500 V-Buck purchase is the cleaner option. The bundle discount exists, but paying double for a skin you may not use regularly is hard to justify unless you are a fan of both franchises.

For context on how other free Sidekick options work in Chapter 7 Season 3 and beyond, the Fortnite guides collection has breakdowns covering everything from quest-based companions to limited-time collaborations.

If you have been collecting Sidekicks this season, you might also want to check out how to get the Panda Team Jr Sidekick for free by completing Cuddles and Chaos quests, or how to claim the Kyo Sidekick if you already own the Chapter 1 Season 9 Kyo back bling. Both are zero-V-Bucks options worth knowing about before you spend on paid companions.

Spyro fits Fortnite better as a Sidekick than he ever would have as a standard outfit. His size, his reactions, and the extra styles make this one of the more considered collaborations Epic has put together for Override season. The September 11 deadline is the only real pressure here.
