Five Vintage Baseball Cards Broke Records This Week

The vintage baseball marketcontinues to prove its relevance in the current sports card landscape, with collectors willing to pay record prices for their sought-after grails. Representing a different era of the game and collectibles itself, vintage baseball has found a way to appeal to a wider audience, and it’s reflected in the sales that have occurred. Though the mass majority of all-time sales in the past week come from names everyone can recognize, that often command the vintage market, such as Mickey Mantle and Jackie Robinson, the record-breaking prices are spread across many brands and grades.

For vintage collectors, adding a card to their collection often comes down to the story behind the card/athlete, whether that be a connection to a certain set of the past or with the athlete itself, and what it known as “eye appeal”, which means how the card appears in presentation regardless of the number grade it was given. With that being said, here are five vintage baseball cards that made hobby history with their latest sales.

    1. 1958 Topps Mickey Mantle #150 PSA 9

The 1958 Topps Mickey Mantle #150 graded a PSA 9 (POP 28), sold for an all-time high of $189,100 on October 23rd via Heritage Auction. With the last public sale taking place on January 26, 2024, when it sold for $80,530, the record sale marks a $108,570 (134.81%) increase in just over 2.5 years. With no PSA 10 copies in existence, the PSA 9 is the cleanest copy of a #150 Mantle that collectors can get their hands on.

With the multi-colored backgrounds, the 1958 Topps is easily recognizable and has become a set that collectors flock to. Holding significance in how sets are constructed today, the 1958 Topps release was the first time the idea of a “subset” was introduced, with the inclusion of “All-Star” cards.

    2. 1948 Leaf Leroy “Satchel” Paige #8 SGC 3

The 1948 Leaf Satchel Paige #8 graded a SGC 3 (POP 9) sold for an all-time high of $120,000 on October 23rd via a Fanatics Premier auction. With the last public sale taking place on March 22, 2024, where it sold for $36,000, the record sale marks a $84,000 (233.33%) increase in just over 2.5 years. With only nine SGC 3 graded copies in existence, the 1948 Paige #8 SGC 3 has recorded just 11 public sales all time.

This card serves as a holy grail for Paige collectors, as it is considered his rookie card and consistently his highest-selling card. Featuring his birth name Leroy, this card was produced in the same year that Paige made his MLB debut, and he still holds the record for the oldest player to debut in the major leagues at 42.

    3. 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 PSA 6

The 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 graded a PSA 6 (POP 71) sold for an all-time high of $112,850 on October 23rd via Heritage Auctions. With the last public sale taking place on June 19, 2026, when it sold for $96,000, the record sale marks a $16,850 (17.55%) increase in just over four months. With just 80 higher-graded PSA copies currently in the market, at a PSA 6, the 1933 Ruth #144 holds a premium for collectors.

Featuring him four times in the 1933 Goudey set (#53, #144, #149, #181), this card comes at the peak of Ruth’s career. Ruth’s #144 was double-printed, with twice as many cards produced as the other cards in this release, though it remains sought-after as it is a “playing-era” card. After baseball cards had primarily featured black-and-white photos, Goudey changed the game with its colorful design, which has continued to take shape in baseball cards today.

    4. 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson #50 PSA 8

The 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson #50 graded a PSA 8 (POP 115) sold for an all-time high of $85,400 on October 23rd via Heritage Auctions. With the last public sale on December 19, 2025, when it sold for $37,820, the record sale marks a $47,580 (125.81%) increase in just under one year. For the 1949 Bowman Robinson #50, PSA has only graded 20 copies higher, making the 8 one of the best possible grades available to collectors.

With the 1948 Leaf set being distributed in March 1949, the 1949 Bowman exists as a co-rookie for Robinson in the eyes of collectors. With a colorful design, the 1949 Leaf set was released during Robinson’s historic 1949 season, when he won the National League MVP.

    5. 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax #123 PSA 8.5

The 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax #123 graded a PSA 8.5 (POP 17), sold for an all-time high of $170,800 on October 23rd via Heritage Auctions. With the last public sale taking place on December 4, 2022, when it sold for $102,000, the record sale marks a $68,800 (67.45%) increase in just under four years.

In the 1955 Topps release, Koufax’s #123 is one of the set’s most iconic cards, as it is considered his rookie card, joining a rookie class of Harmon Killebrew and Roberto Clemente. The 1955 Topps design was the first flagship set to use a horizontal format across the entire release, and it has become one that is frequently referenced in modern Topps sets.
