As the summer heat begins to cool and we head into the early days of fall, Netflix is gearing up for a mammoth September packed with returning favorites, blockbuster movies, and some absolutely massive live events. Whether you’re looking for prestige drama, pulse-pounding sports, or a healthy dose of nostalgia, the streaming giant’s early fall lineup is already looking incredibly stacked.
Scripted television is coming out swinging this month, headlined by the highly anticipated second season of Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy hit, The Gentlemen. Ryan Murphy is also back to chill us to the bone with the fourth installment of his true-crime anthology, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, while sitcom fans will definitely want to tune in for the brand-new reboot of the beloved classic, A Different World. If you’re a fan of international hits, September will also see the beloved Call My Agent! franchise return with a brand-new continuation movie, reuniting the chaotic ASK agency team five years after the series finale.
Sports fans have a lot to celebrate this September, as Netflix continues its massive push into the live broadcasting arena. We’re getting an exclusive NFL showdown live from Australia as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams, followed by the monumental boxing rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao later in the month. Beyond the live events, the acclaimed Untold docu-series is dropping two highly anticipated profiles: one on Australian Olympic breakdancer Raygun, and another exploring the origins of pop-culture icon Mr. T.
Of course, Netflix is also rounding out the month with an excellent slate of licensed movies, international originals, and quirky surprises. Cinematic heavy hitters like Straight Outta Compton, T2 Trainspotting, and the horror hit Smile 2 will be joining the library, alongside Russell Crowe’s new true-crime thriller Unabomber. And for anime fans looking for something completely out of left field, LEGO ONE PIECE is finally making its blocky debut!

- Heartland (Season 19) – As a raging wildfire threatens the Bartlett-Fleming ranch, the family is pushed to their limits to protect their six-generation home. While Amy works to balance her reputation as a horse trainer with her new romance with Nathan, the return of a vengeful rival and the hiring of an unpredictable new ranch hand force the entire family to fight for their legacy and make difficult choices about their future.
- Keanu (2016) – Two mild-mannered cousins are forced to impersonate ruthless street killers to infiltrate a dangerous drug cartel and rescue their beloved, stolen kitten. Directed by Peter Atencio, this action-comedy stars Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Tiffany Haddish, and Method Man.
- Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) – Ready to sell their home and move to the suburbs, Mac and Kelly Radner face a new nightmare when an out-of-control sorority moves in next door. Desperate to reclaim their peace and close the sale, they team up with their former nemesis, Teddy, to take the girls down. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, this comedy sequel stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, and Chloë Grace Moretz.
- Straight Outta Compton (2015) – In 1980s Compton, California, five young men channel their experiences of systemic racism and street life into brutally honest music, forming the groundbreaking gangsta rap group N.W.A. - T2 Trainspotting (2017) – Twenty years after betraying his friends and fleeing with their drug money, Mark Renton returns to Edinburgh. As he reconnects with Spud, Sick Boy, and the recently escaped Begbie, old resentments and dangerous habits quickly resurface. Directed by Danny Boyle, this black comedy-drama sequel stars Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle.
- The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019) – Narrated by a philosophical golden retriever named Enzo, this touching drama follows his lifelong bond with his owner, an aspiring race car driver. Through observing his owner’s triumphs and heartbreaks, Enzo learns that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to navigate the unpredictable journey of life. - Valentine (2001) – Four friends are stalked in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day by a vengeful killer wearing a Cupid mask. As the body count rises, the women realize the murderer is a boy they mercilessly bullied in junior high school, back for deadly revenge.
