La. (Louisiana First) — A federal lawsuit was filed in Northern California against Roblox and Discord after a juvenile living in Jefferson Parish was the alleged victim of sexual exploitation
According to the lawsuit, the juvenile began using Roblox at the age of 12 in 2024. The child’s mother allowed him to use the platform due to her belief in Roblox’s age-appropriate, safe platform.
About a year later, when the juvenile turned 13, an adult woman pretending to be a young girl began communicating with the minor. She gained his trust by offering Robux, which is Roblox’s virtual currency. After this, the woman suggested the juvenile download Discord to continue talking with the minor.
The woman allegedly sent the minor explicit videos and photos, coercing him into performing sexual acts on camera by offering Robux. The juvenile’s mother became aware of the communication after reviewing his messages.
The federal filing states that the minor sustained psychological harm and received medical treatment for the alleged exploitation. He was reportedly diagnosed with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and had problems involving trust, relationships and emotional functionality.
The juvenile’s mother is seeking damages for emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life. She is also seeking that the case go to trial.
Roblox, Discord named in lawsuits
The lawsuit alleges that Roblox and Discord knew that their platforms were being used by alleged predators but failed to implement regulated safety measures.
Roblox has been the defendant in numerous lawsuits, alleging a lack of safety precautions, deceptive advertising and sexual exploitation.
In August 2023, Roblox was named in a class action lawsuit in the Northern District of California. The platform was accused of facilitating gambling by directing kids to third-party sites that feature blackjack, roulette and other games.
In May 2025, a 27-year-old man was arrested on charges of kidnapping after a 10-year-old California girl was picked up after meeting the man she met through Roblox.
In October 2025, Kentucky’s attorney general said the company lacked child safety measures.
In November 2025, an Oklahoma family accused the platform of being a “hunting ground” for child sex predators.
After numerous lawsuits were filed, Roblox announced it was implementing a new safety measure to improve age verification by using photos of users’ faces to determine their age. This implementation was expected to launch in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands in 2025. It was said to be effective in the United States by January 2026.
